Someone on Jericho has suggested that the best way to pick up typos is to read the book backwards. Much though I hate typos, I’m not sure I hate them quite that much.

Kudos for sticking with it all, Philippa – it sounds like it has really taken a toll over this year.
Looking forward very much to reading it – I am sure that it will be worth every bead of sweat, nibbled fingernail and tear shed.
And if it makes you feel better – Tilda’s just been published and even though we went through all the pages,…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoLove it! It was Donny Osmond for me, but not for very long. Adam Ant pushed him out!
For I remember, I think we naturally turn to the most impactful memories – the really good or bad or unusual ones. I wonder if we tried to do a specifically ‘good’ version, how different it would be. Or how hard it would be to pick out those kind of memories?

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoOh, Hil – your I remember struck a chord, as we’ve done this recently about people we’ve loved and lost to prepare an artwork for a community project exhibition (I blogged about it just today). Sending hugs – it’s never easy to do.
Hope your time with your grandson helped ease the pain – you certainly got some interesting snippets! Love the belly…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoSo I plumped for an ‘overheard dialogue’, and a ‘write gorgeous’ option.
Overheard dialogue: found this really hard! I was too interested in the conversations to get them written down or couldn’t keep up. And I was in a pub, so lots going on around me. However, here’s what I did catch:
(in passing)
I’m like, Shit! And I’m thinking…Talk to…[Read more]

O.M.F.G.
On top of all of that you have to deal with page proofs? I had fondly imagined that at least would be the publisher’s job. They certainly make you earn your crust, don’t they?
Thank you (I think) for this insight into the process. Before I smash my computer and run screaming for the hills, I must congratulate you on seeing it all…[Read more]

Thank you, Kaz. Do you think this might count as an “I remember” exercise?

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoI believe there’s a chemical released in your brain during traumatic (or very happy) events that fixes the memory. Probably some sort of survival learning mechanism I would guess. But this does mean our I Remember pieces are like to be tear jerkers. I had a go yesterday and was reduced to sniffling. I’m going to a conference on UK GAAP this…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoI’ve read the chapters for both books. (The gorgeous passages got declaimed loudly in the library in my lunch break – had a lot of fun with the Twain dialect.) Not started on the exercises yet but I might manage some I remembers tomorrow 😁

How long is it since we had a blog?
It’s been a funny few weeks for me. But never mind all that. This is a blog from the Word Cloud, so apologies to former Cloudies who remember it. I may post a couple more of these blogs as well, so it’s worth saying straight out that I’m also sorry if they seem too locker-room in style. They are who I was.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoWow. That was a tough read. But it has struck me how all of our I Remember pieces have been a tough read. Not in the same way, and not to the same degree. But that seems to be what we do, mostly, when remembering. I wonder why.
Hugs, Hilary.

Memories, memories
Through a mane of blonde hair, through streaks of bleached and of darker dyed strands, her eyes flickered upwards. “Can I help you, sir?”
Behind me the door hissed shut expensively, hinges well greased by wills and probates. “Do yer know where Bryant Street is?”
“I umm… don’t know.” She bent her head back down to the screen…[Read more]

I’m so happy that we’ve got together to do this course. Although it hasn’t (yet) got me out of a logjam with a current WIP it has inspired me to re-write a previous WIP in which I have faith despite no interest from agents. I’ve dived in and am loving the process.
