I’ve just printed out Annie Neugerbauer’s worksheet to see if it helps me tackle the next round of wip edits. š

I thought Denizens might enjoy this interview with the author of The Chemical Detective, a thriller due out soon from Point Blank, an imprint of OneWorld. Those of you who were around in the Word Cloud days will of course know that author as Bric. It’s a fantastic novel – go and buy…[Read more]

Help, please – I’m sure this has been mentioned before but I cannot find it. I’ve received a notification that someone has commented on an update in a private group, but all I am able to access is just one (earlier) comment, and not the 7 I am informed exist. How do overcome this?
-
I had something like this recently. Got an e-mail notification that someone had commented, but when I clicked on the ‘View the discussion here’ link I found that all but the last few posts had vanished, including the actual post by me that was being replied to. Came over here to check and it was the same. Is this a software issue?

It should show all your posts but sometimes it ‘folds’ them to save space. This is annoying but there’s not much that xan be done at present. However if you’ve been mentioned in a post using your handle, then select mentions from the main navigational menu (assuming you’re logged in). You can access the post there. Failing that trh actually going…[Read more]

Thanks Jules – I’ll accept it is an occasional hiccup and work round it.

Yeah, I got hit by that glitch on that comment thread too, @sandradavies. It does seem to strike at random. :-/

Many, many thanks for this Kaz. Multiple lightbulb moments. As Philippa says, it can make a big difference finding a model that works for you (and indeed, different ones might apply themselves better to different works). Iām trying to structure a novella at the moment, which is obviously somewhat different to a novel, and some of the more s…[Read more]

Yes it would be lovely if they had the right info on the signs. Especially before you find yourself on a toll road going the wrong way…

Thanks all, and particularly Philippa. I may well have some questions on agoraphobia for you in due course – thank you so much for the offer of help.
As to the house being the narrator – yes, it does mean that the entire book takes place in or around the house. It was actually working OK just taking place in the kitchen, but I think the story…[Read more]

None of the holidays we used to have in France (we haven’t been there since we’ve acquired a sat-nav) used to be quite complete without getting comprehensively lost at least once.

Oh I think you could make it work @bellam. On one level the house could be a sort of manifestation of the forces inside Molly’s head keeping her imprisoned and I like the duality of it being a safe place and a prison at the same time.

you’re all very welcome and I’m glad if they’re useful š But I forgot to put index cards in! I’ve just added that now, point 2 after Donald Maas.
Yes, that’s right @philippaeast – it’s very liberating to put all these approaches on the table and see that they all ‘work’ even though they’re different. It’s all there for the taking and what works…[Read more]
