Amazing but true: participants in Songs of Innocence and Experience have just under two months left to complete their short story.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoHi @JaneShuff – two brilliant characters here. One bursting off the page, and the other grinding their teeth in the background.
I’ve concentrated on the distinguishing features, and these are the impressions I got as I read:
The initial description of Dipsy’s (great name) clothes – ‘capacious’ and big pleated skirts’, made me think of someone on…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoWelcome to Class 3 of the DIY MA.
This time, we are going with a slightly longer stretch as it’s over the Christmas period. We will have closer to 6 weeks, with Class 4 starting on 6th January. This will give us all time to catch up, regroup, and deal with life over the festive season.
We once again begin with the class reading.
In your c…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoThinking about it, this psychology stuff is probably ‘inner worlds’ rather than the ‘outer worlds’ this unit was supposed to be focusing on. But imo the inner has to come first, right? So anyway, below are some rough notes from Stephanie Hutton’s Psychology of Character workshop (which, if you get the chance to go, is well worth doing). In honour of a writing exercise recently enjoyed, and to mark the end of 2019, when I will be judging the entries, please write a piece that contains the words: OLD YEAR NIGHT (in any order and not necessarily together). If you could keep it up to 400 words, that would be great.

Well, I’ve read your entries with great enjoyment. Jeanette gave a beautiful allegorical rendition of the passing seasons, Athers made me laugh with his tale of Norman, the folium-phobiac hoist by his own petard, Sandra found a silver lining and Barney completely confounded me with this disturbing narrative – I’m still asking myself, what the h…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 5 months agoIt would be great if you could try and post some notes from the Stephanie Hutton workshop @raine. I’m at the stage where I find all the exercises very useful – end of first draft and starting the second which is when I try to do serious planning – but I agree timing is everything!
