Hi Athelstone! And thanks.
Yes, I’m currently planning a launch party for February (whoop!). It will likely be in Lincoln, and you will all be welcome! Details to follow once I’ve sorted them out… -

You certainly had a lot of ups and downs but congratulations for sticking with it all the way. I am so looking forward to reading it and have just pre-ordered it.

Well the story of the book is seriously interesting, so I can hardly wait to get my copy.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 7 months agoI love the bit of dialogue about the peas.
I found the listening exercise very hard. Tried it again the other day. I would need to be very close or the speakers would need to be very loud!
Interesting about trying to write ‘gorgeous’ when you don’t feel you normally do. A good exercise, though, to try a different approach. Scary dream! -

Her Granny’s face beamed through the steam rising from the jug that she clutched to her chest as though it was a precious jewel.
‘Surprise,’ she said.
Lily looked carefully at her. What could it be? Her plate was complete; a piece of white fish at the top; sweet corn balanced on the left; and mashed potato carefully piled to one side. She’d…[Read more]

I woke this morning with an idea for a short story/novella. It’s not something I’d tackle so I thought I’d put it out there for anyone looking for a new project:
Two women have taken on the challenge of rowing across the Atlantic for a charity – say, breast cancer awareness – and have acquired the necessary sponsorship, had a boat built and have…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 7 months agoThanks both, especially for the kind words about how I currently write.
I do have very vivid dreams, which are full of this level of detail. Sometimes, they’re full of sensation too, but this one wasn’t – I was simply an observer in this one.
Why did it feel false to write? I think it was because I was consciously trying to make it ‘gorgeous’…[Read more]

I’m not sure. An I remember exercise about a particular relationship would be something of a curiosity I think. I enjoyed writing these short pieces because they helped me remember the taste of the time rather than focusing on every intense flavour.

Hah hah! Reading back, I think I maybe make it sound worse than it was. Despite all the tears and tantrums, it still felt like a privilege to sit down and create something with my words. I still knew this was what I wanted to do. Plus, I have a lovely agent who I knew would support me. At the time, it was all so new though, such a steep learning…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 7 months agoI’m glad I don’t have your dreams Squidge. Having read a couple of your books I would say that even if you don’t ‘try’ to write gorgeous, a lot of your writing is. I’ve always loved the way you describe Tilda’s world. I wondered what it was about this that felt different and whether there was anything you learned from it that might spill over into…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 7 months agoLovely I remember, Raine. So evocative. Reading everybody’s I remembers has really hammered home how much more important little authentic details are that overarching descriptions to bring a scene to life.
