I’m mesmerised, at this time of year, by the sudden appearance of bright spring flowers, transforming seemingly barren ground to a show of life and colour. So this month’s competition is about TRANSFORMATION. Any kind – winter garden to spring; person from human to angel. Whatever your imagination comes up with, in 400 words.

Oh, big WOW John – not that I didn’t doubt you, but against 10,000??! Will anyone be taking the lyrics up going ahead, for recording? Are we allowed to see them? This is brilliant news for such a cold, icy-blast sort of day. Many congratulations.

I agree. It has gone the way of so many other foods, so bland when mass produced. My France holiday (a distant memory) showed just how much.

  One of the first and most obvious changes is that after preparing a meal with garlic I’d have to scrub away at my hands for a good ten minutes and they’d still be poor company next day. These days a quick rinse is all that’s needed.

Hi Doug,
I live in northern England, but am a bit of a ‘bah humbug’ at this time of year as I’m no longer of Christian belief, so don’t celebrate that side of it – and I find the whole over-indulging thing all a bit too much. The best I can come up with is (Christian) Advent (though I’m sure that’s a worldwide thing).

  Ah @janette, but its the winter solstice! That’s how I see it – and all the build up excitement is just a way of making the dark bearable!! Although I do wish it meant we could celebrate on the actual solstice (early presents!) but I guess that’s a step too far!
