Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoGood stuff, Jane. I am a ‘surface reader, accept what I’m given and expect to be further enlightened as the tale goes on, but also need to be enticed in the first place. Although Dipsy doesn’t sound like someone I’d warm to/would actively avoid for her lack of off button, her situation and the narrator have my sympathy.
Describing what she was…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoHi @JaneShuff – two brilliant characters here. One bursting off the page, and the other grinding their teeth in the background.
I’ve concentrated on the distinguishing features, and these are the impressions I got as I read:
The initial description of Dipsy’s (great name) clothes – ‘capacious’ and big pleated skirts’, made me think of someone on…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoWelcome to Class 3 of the DIY MA.
This time, we are going with a slightly longer stretch as it’s over the Christmas period. We will have closer to 6 weeks, with Class 4 starting on 6th January. This will give us all time to catch up, regroup, and deal with life over the festive season.
We once again begin with the class reading.
In your c…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoThinking about it, this psychology stuff is probably ‘inner worlds’ rather than the ‘outer worlds’ this unit was supposed to be focusing on. But imo the inner has to come first, right? So anyway, below are some rough notes from Stephanie Hutton’s Psychology of Character workshop (which, if you get the chance to go, is well worth doing). I’m no…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoIt would be great if you could try and post some notes from the Stephanie Hutton workshop @raine. I’m at the stage where I find all the exercises very useful – end of first draft and starting the second which is when I try to do serious planning – but I agree timing is everything!

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoI’ve been very bad and not even finished the reading assignment. Things keep cropping up to divert me. We are off on a cruise at Christmas with several sea days so I will catch up on all reading then if not before.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoSorry for not contributing this session. I did the reading, and enjoyed it, and think I’ll use some of the exercises to expand on what I already do when I’m planning. I didn’t get around to doing anything for this bit as I’m at totally the wrong point in any of my wips for it to work, and needed to get something finished, etc, etc!
Too late to…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoYes that sounds good WB. Thank you.
I would appreciate a bit of space right now because as @janeshuff says I’m really enjoying the process, but I have a lot of other time pressures right now. It would be good to feel I had a little bit more time to wallow in each part of the course. That’s just for now, I hasten to add – the pacing of it is spot…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 4 months agoI loved this section of the course and I’ve spent quite a bit of time on the charatcer questionnaires. I find them a good way of forcing my brain to think. However I don’t think they’re very interesting for anyone else to read. Instead I’m posting something loosely based on the Distinguishing Features exercise. Would love some feedback. I know…[Read more]
