Has the Word Cloud disappeared for anyone else? I just get a blank page.
-
Me too – a ‘This site isn’t working’ notice. Both Cloud and YWP Has happened before and come back … fingers crossed.
-
I just have a white blank page and no messages at all on the screen.
-
I have a blank white page, too.

Hello, lovely Den Dwellers. Thanks so much for inviting me here. I’m neck-deep in prep for York and reading for the Costas (largest ever entry this year), as well as trying to sort out the new platform for the course. I’ll make sure I find time to hang out here whenever I can. So good to know this place exists. xx

Wonderful to see you here, Debi.
-
I’m feeling quite emosh TBH. What a great space.
-
Having just kicked off a competition on the Cloud – and the Cloud currently lying on its back contemplating its maker, I hope this isn’t the only place (apart from the Townhouse, obviously)
-
You’re a total legend for starting a new comp. No idea what lies in wait for the Cloud. Sigh.
-
It’s not looking good at the moment.

Richard – FWIW, you also have us. One of the things I’d like the Den to be, as the Cloud has been at its best, is a place for mutual assistance, advice, support and so on. You may not have a presence on social media, but a lot of us do, and social media is as much about building a network as anything else. We can help you if you want to go down…[Read more]

This has been a really encouraging thread for someone whose still battering at the agents’ doors. I am definitely one for bloody minded perseverance, so I’ve got that one ticked, and am always striving to improve my craft. I’ll take a look at those podcasts Philippa, they sound excellent.
I’ve just finished Mark Forsythe’s Elements of Eloquence…[Read more] -

Excellent point about craft, Philippa. I’ve always been rather, um…informal about how I approach structure etc but the more I learn, the more criticial I find it to be. I think you tend to improve naturally just by writing (and reading) more, but actively learning is essential. The problem I have with throwing myself into addressing matters of c…[Read more]

Well FWIW I know a few writers who have really good publishing deals, a few more who have agents and are subbing to publishers, some more who are subbing to agents, and some who haven’t got to that stage yet. The honest truth is that the vast majority of writers I know well are bloody good. The ones who have the great deals are bloody good, but s…[Read more]
