Looks suspiciously like a move of our rooms here might be necessary… I wish now I’d been quicker to post a general comment about this place on the Cloud wall so’s more people had found us here. But like Kate says, if we can all check our Facebook/emails we might be able to trawl a fair few untethered CLoudies.
I guess, if this is it for the…[Read more]

That delay between agent and sub does sound good. I went out about a month after signing with agent, and was reeling a bit!
Agent… It’s a long story. He’s helping with current one, but wants to meet before signing for long term. It’s complicated and I’m still looking elsewhere.

Technical question – When there is a series of comments on a main wall post, after about 8 sequential comments, I lose the ability to reply to the last – there’s no reply button after than comment. E.g. the name thread below, I can’t comment on JUles’ last comment. Is everyone getting that? And does it really matter as I can just post a separate…[Read more]

If other wordpress sites are anything to go by, you can reply to the last โreplyableโ comment, and your comment will appear below the last one

I’ve just found the same thing, Raine, and Daed is right. If you can’t add a reply to a thread of answers, clicking on the little comment icon on the original post allows you to comment and that comment then appears after the last reply.

Ah. All of the fabness. Thank-you.

Denizens. Although, I might be more of a denlet than an izen. ๐

I was thinking denizens too.

Not ‘Dense’ then?

Denizens – I like. And @sandradavies – just look at the folks already here. Definitely not dense in any way, shape or form! ๐

Dentists? Maybe not …

Sorry Squidge – I’m editing :-(, but a quick look at the OED suggests ‘dendrite’ -‘crystalline growth , or ‘denatant’ – the migration of fish. I rather like denominator …

Hiya Elle, Well done for diving in on the critique posting! This is a sad and believable portrayal of depression, quite uncomfortable to read – which it needs to be. I spotted a few wordings that I felt jarred a little, so I’ll give you them…
‘The callerโs name required a sharp inhale before answering.’ I’m not sure about the required, it s…[Read more]

Yeah, the kickstarters seem to get more coverage than the submission call for this and the other one I posted about. THat’s prob deliberate – the funding being the more limiting factor. But they’ve both hit their targets so are def going ahead.

THank-you Debi! Shortstops had not come across my radar. Or it had, but my radar is on the blink. ๐
It’s a nice little motivation/acheivement boost to send short things out, I find. Particularly in the midst of endless edits, or horrible waiting-for-responses.

A few places that are good for finding places open to submissions for your flashes, shorts, poetry, novella-in-flash etc etc.:
Submittable – https://manager.submittable.com Lots of journals use this as their submissions portal, but you can also search current opportunites.
Christopher Fielden – https://www.christopherfielden.com/ Keeps lists…[Read more]

Wow, good thread me dears. PB, and others submitting, I feel your pain. I had an agent, had a book go out on sub, said agent left publishing, so now back to submitting a new book. I guess my experience has told me a few things:
1. Research your agencies as well as your agents. My agent was early career (a good thing re ambition perhaps), but also…[Read more] -

Yay, that all sounds so exciting, and you are getting closer and closer to going out on sub! Are Sarah’s edits big or not-too-scary? Will keep edity fingers crossed for you.
Me… ha. Sort of an indie pub deal, sort of an agent offer, sort of several agents who said dont sign till you hear from me, and still havent got back. So yeah. Lots of ugh.
-
Oh man, you must be on tenterhooks!!! What does “sort of an agent offer mean”???
-
Yes, the edits from Sarah are manageable. I had to rewrite the book pretty much from scratch, so I knew there would be plenty editing to do. I don’t mind. It’s nice to have time to transition between signing with an agent and going out on sub.
