@raine – you just post your word counts for each day, but towards the end of the month you can ‘validate’, which is to say, you paste all your written words into NaNo’s special word counting window, and it counts it and confirms your totals. This is so you can prove you’ve written what you say you’ve written, and also makes sure everyone is…[Read more]

@raine I made it 1,666 words a day – 50K over 30 days. Have the counts changed?
Edit: ah, never mind – you did say excluding weekends – I’m half-asleep today!

@Raine Your view of semantics (and that of others) is a moot point. Is failure not trying, or not winning? I think I may be too inclined towards not winning, and some re-education is necessary.
When considering success and failure, I think it’s important not to forget why writers do write. Surely, all the various reasons can be summed-up as…[Read more] -

@Johnalty That’s what I thought.
@Raine My first reaction, too. Said author has since rubbished the idea. But otoh, every activity known to mankind has its share of cheats. -

@raine – found it. The kitchen saga…
Basically, we have a worktop that is not level (actually goes the ‘wrong’ way so water runs away from the sink) with the point where the join is on that worktop opened up. We have self opening drawers because they were not put in level. Or floor was re-screed for times before it was good enough to lay vinyl…[Read more]-
And apologies – just read this through and it seems my u is not working very well on the keyboard! Pshhh. Authors. You’d think they’d check their spellings, wouldn’t you? (And of course the blasted u has worked perfectly all through this post…)

π I have a w that doesn’t work on my laptop keyboard, and a slightly sticky shift button on my external keyboard! I blame the complete lack of dusting.

I blame the fellas eating at the keyboard – the crumbs get stuck underneath, especially on the lap top π

@raine – what on earth had I posted that sounded so horrendous?! Not been on for a few days, so it’s all disappeared off the wall…

@raine, of course everyone has their own experience of Twitter, and no two are alike. If a writer follows me, I follow back – the only exception being those who are on Twitter, not to socialise, but to promote their own self-pub books.
Kit de Waal and Kerry Hudson are two authors who are currently working hard to do something about diversity. They…[Read more] -

@Raine they replied saying if the MS had been turned down and not re-worked, then don’t resubmit, but if it has been reworked and the writer feels it could benefit from another look, then repitch. That answers that! I’ll have to check to see what I sent.

Our very own Jules (@jillybean) did indeed wave her magic wand of WordPress magic to conjure up this fabulous confcetion, the Den of Writers. The full guilty few , who thought the place up, squabbled over names, who does what, founded and funded it are: Jules (@jillybean), Athelstone (@athelstone), Fiona (@bric), Daedalus (@daedalus), KazG…[Read more]

Thanks for the elucidation perhaps this should be in an introduction?

They’re a modest lot so perhaps just a eulogy to me, how I came up with the idea and built the site from scratch – that sort of thing π
But more seriously, I expect we’ll find a place for the list if anybody wants to find it.

Thanks for that, Athers. In that case, well done to all concerned a wonderful job has been undertaken and it is much appreciated to be able to fan the spirit of ‘The Wordcloud’ into new (and hopefully) everlasting realms.

I can’t wait to hear your speech @skylark! And @Philippa, you’re well on your way. π I have my first 1-to-1 at 14h00, the agent I chose got changed at the last minute, but by an agent I wanted to see, so all’s ok. So sorry that some of you wonderful people won’t be present this year. @Raine, if the wedding’s boring, skip it and come over. 😄

@raine Sorry to miss you this time – enjoy the wedding! I’m missing one to be here this weekend 😳 (Very understanding friends though!)
