My Bump story’s up at last. Been pondering it for weeks, with no real ideas coming together, then it all came through in a rush this weekend. Phew.
(Loved reading the other stories that’ve been posted. I never start on them til I’ve posted my own…)

I’ve developed bits from monthly comps into full stories – and even short stories and submitted them. Never had an issue because the end results which are submitted are often very different to how they started. So I don’t consider the end result to be what has already been published, if you see what I mean?
And re getting publisher’s permission -…[Read more]-
Thank you, @squidge. That’s very helpful.

Hiya @libby Yeah, I’ve published several things from monthly comps before. Whatever we post on here, we retain all copyright, so there is no need to call a piece from here ‘previously published’ as such. As long as its been noticeably revised then I’ve never worried too much about submitting it as as an unpublished piece. Can you go back and…[Read more]

The Sanctum of Dreams
āI dreamt about you last night. You were in the sanctum.ā
āWell, thatās hardly surprising, is it? Given whatās about to happen.ā
āNo. I suppose not. It was just soā¦ā
āSoā¦what? Are you going to share? Or just sit there looking worried? Iām not a mind reader.ā
āYet.ā
āHa! True. Well, tell me about it. I donāt like to see y…[Read more] -

There’s a monster inside of me.
It was born when Noellia moved into number 14.
The car started it. A shiny new Fiat 500. Electric. In powder blue. Parked on the drive. I looked at my own clapped out Fiesta and felt the first stirrings of new life, deep in my chest.
She fed the monster well, did Noellia.
Had an open house, she did. Invited…[Read more]

Well it was a small select number of entries this month…well, two months! But they were none the worse for being that.
@Athelstone – a tale with sinister overtones… having been on the business end of a cat’s claws more than once, I’m glad my scratches didn’t end up this way.
@Janette – such a poignant story. I fully expected this to be linked…[Read more] -

Oh Richard – saw it on the news last night. Had no idea it was your village. I can’t understand why people would be so selfish and inconsiderate when so many are doing their best to avoid catching/spreading this blasted infection.

That’s a good one, Doug… as a person of faith myself, I’ve often started new projects with a prayer, and one novel in particular benefited enormously in trying to incorporate aspects of my faith within it. Thanks for sharing

Even in fantasy – I do some research! Not in depth, granted, cos I’m not seeking to reflect accuracy, but I do have to do enough to make the processes I describe (like melting precious metals; making a catapult out of just string; rules about coats of arms for example) so if anyone reads it who also has that knowledge, I’ve given enough to make it…[Read more]

SO sorry, folks – had completely forgotten to check in on the monthly comp! Have no excuse other than I’ve been rather focused on Tilda 3 recently and got carried away.
As it’s already the 4th August, and there were only three entries, does anyone object to it running through this month too? Hopefully get a few more folk having a go?…[Read more]

A place for Stupid Questoins 5 years, 9 months agoI always sit in on these ‘story arc’ kinds of sessions in the hope I’ll find one that works for me. I never have…
I do have two that help remind me of the essentials though.
The triangle…I learnt it on the self edit course (now run by Jericho Writers) and blogged about it here:…[Read more]

I think most of us are probably ‘Plantsers’ in reality. And yeah, it means you do end up on the wrong path sometimes. Lots of times, actually… I’m trying to sort one out at the mo in Tilda #3, and it’s hard to back-track and find the point where you actually first stepped off the path.

Squidge replied to the topic Planning vs Winging it. in the forum
A place for Stupid Questoins 5 years, 9 months agoI normally have a character and and end in sight when I start. Apart from that, I don’t do much planning at all – my brain simply doesn’t work like that. I’d love to be more organised, but personally it’s stifling. I am full of admiration for peeps who do the whole character file/in depth plot/post-it scene arrangements etc!
I do a lot of…[Read more]
