Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoThank you both! I succumbed to overwriting, which I’m prone too, and it was FUN. If a bit much to read 🙂

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoOoh me too @seagreen! What are your thoughts on that? Rescue Remedy would be a let down (though probably best for the woman!)

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoSending hugs and support Jane, and I respect the no feedback request. I understand how you’re feeling – but can I just remind you how very much I’ve enjoyed the pieces I’ve read by you in the past?

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoI decided not to buy the books and would prefer to dip in and out on this, so herewith my contribution.
I remember a Christmas, the dining table, taller than me, piled as high again with presents (and bigger ones beneath) and the focus of five adults, all on me.
I remember my Dad laughing on a Sunday morning when stopped by a policeman for…[Read more] -

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoAbsolutely fabulous! And intense. An assault on the senses. My kind of gorgeous, too 🙂
And your ‘I Remember…’ made me remember the obstacle course of childhood.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoBeauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say, and I certainly feel that way about Le Guin’s gorgeous passages. Some were more gorgeous than others. It’s all very subjective. But I have to say that your gorgeous is also my gorgeous. I absolutely loved that piece. “a clatter of kaleidoscope birds” – sublime.

First day
The first day of school was always like this – nervous parents clutching little ones’ hands, milling in a crowd of growing frenzy. The sooner they were decoupled and the parents moved firmly on their way, the better it would be for everyone. But first reassurance was needed.
I moved through the group, cutting apron strings when no one…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoHmm. Gorgeous is as gorgeous does, but I did enjoy wallowing in my words, which was the point I guess. Haven’t captured much dialogue yet, for the past week I seem to be on a very noisy trams, or too far away from people talking or alternatively next to non-English speakers or silent people reading or on phones. Will keep trying!
Le Guin…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months ago@janeshuff – I think that’s a good idea. Maybe we should have a dedicated thread, called “Craft Seminar Class x : Diary” started by whoever’s first off the blocks?

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoWhen I’ve done courses in the past on other things as well as writing, we’ve often either kept a diary or shared ‘reflections’ on each section and what we thought we learned from it. I’ve found this very helpful both to clarify my own thoughts and to see what others gained. Plus it was interesting to see what different things people got from the…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoGood dialogue harvesting @squidge, and I especially liked the peas 🙂
I thought your ‘gorgeous’ para was really arresting and clear, it didn’t feel forced or unnatural at all and it was really vivid. What a dream! Beautifully captured.

Well, I got away with the last one so this is another blog from the Word Cloud. Apologies again to former Cloudies who remember it. To repeat myself, it’s worth saying straight out that I’m also sorry if they seem too locker-room in style. The male gaze is overused and far less important than male writers suppose. But the blogs are who I was…[Read more]

BTW – don’t assume you won’t write this idea. I almost gave an idea once… but then realised actually I wanted to write it myself!

Yes, I’m currently planning a launch party for February (whoop!). It will likely be in Lincoln, and you will all be welcome! Details to follow once I’ve sorted them out… -
