Popping in to say hello – I’ve been in a most peculiar head space and sure it’s do to with It That Shall Not Be Named, but slowly getting some focus and clarity back. I’ve felt like a cabbage moth, flitting from here to there and never really settling, when I need to channel the caterpillar, with her steady devouring progress.
Also, I had some good news I forgot to celebrate here (and we all know how important it is to eke out every celebration!), which is that I applied for and was awarded a Quick Response Residency at Varuna Writer’s Centre in NSW! I was DELIGHTED, as I’ve always coveted a Varuna residency. It’s a beautiful old house and gardens that belong to Eleanor Dark’s family (an Aussie writer) and you get your own lovely writing room and all meals catered for. You help yourself to breakfast and lunch and join the few other writers for dinner (or you can have it in your room if you want to be anti social). There’s also opportunities to book it mentoring and feedback. It’s for a week at a time and it’s not free but it is subsidised. The most pleasing thing for me was that Varuna selection is known for being all based on the quality of writing submitted 🙂 S0 that was a real boost. (I submitted the Needlies chapter, @raine!).
The somewhat predictable downside is that it was meant to be next week 🙁 I was going to immerse myself in book 2, which I have to deliver to Penguin by July 1. It would have been PERFECT. But hey ho, it will be postponed and hopefully I’ll get in there before deadline (looking increasingly unlikely it has to be said). But still, good news!
Also I am building my own author website, which is exciting.
Hope you’re all doing ok xxx

Thanks for the catch-up Kaz – and brilliant (and not undeserved) news about the residency. Fingers crossed all will come to pass … whenever.
Fingers crossed from me too @kazg. A lovely boost though.
Retreat sounds amazing Kaz – and I am totally not surprised they were won over by the Needlies!! Love them so much. On the + side, by the time this is all calmed down a bit, you will be in SERIOUS need of a bit of time away, so it’s nice to know there is that waiting for you. How is Book2 going atm?
Thanks @janeshuff, @sandradavies and @raine! Sorry I didn’t see this Raine, I’ve been a bit erratic on all fronts lately. Book 2 is crawling along, it needs much more attention than I seem able to give it, unfortunately! I had so much great beta feedback and I know what needs to change to make the book stronger – but getting my head in a fit state to synthesise all that is another thing entirely. Some big structural thinking is required and it’s just hard to do that with my bitty scatty brain flitting around. hopefully I’ll come through this stage sssooon…
I don’t think you’re alone in suffering from scattybrainitis @kazg. Sending reinforcing hugs.
Thank you, gratefully received @janeshuff (I MISS HUGS) x
