I am *trying* to get the big climax scene of this godawful wip written but the cat has now knocked over the giant bag of catfood *twice*, got himself stuck under the cooker, made me spill my tea, and had a fight with his brother, leaving tufts of fluff all over the lounge. Anyone want a cat?

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 5 months agoWelcome to Class 3 of the DIY MA.
This time, we are going with a slightly longer stretch as it’s over the Christmas period. We will have closer to 6 weeks, with Class 4 starting on 6th January. This will give us all time to catch up, regroup, and deal with life over the festive season.
We once again begin with the class reading.

Raine replied to the topic Craft Seminar Class 2: Character 1 – Outer Worlds in the forum
Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 5 months agoThinking about it, this psychology stuff is probably ‘inner worlds’ rather than the ‘outer worlds’ this unit was supposed to be focusing on. But imo the inner has to come first, right? So anyway, below are some rough notes from Stephanie Hutton’s Psychology of Character workshop (which, if you get the chance to go, is well worth doing). I’m no…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 5 months agoSorry for not contributing this session. I did the reading, and enjoyed it, and think I’ll use some of the exercises to expand on what I already do when I’m planning. I didn’t get around to doing anything for this bit as I’m at totally the wrong point in any of my wips for it to work, and needed to get something finished, etc, etc!
Too late to…[Read more]

Captive No More
Immovable behind a wide table, the five children sat strangely motionless. From tallest on the right to smallest on the left, they patiently faced an audience seated on ten rows of scarlet-topped hotel ballroom chairs.
The tallest child spoke first. “My name is One,” he said quietly, but loud enough. “I am the oldest. I am…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 5 months agoHi all.
Technically, we’re at the end of the 3 weeks for Class 2.
I, for one, am kind of all over the place. I’ve read all the core reading, shared my gleanings from Class 1 at my IRL writing group, done some exercises with them, but not done the exercises for Class 2 at all or really got going on the other elements. I was also meaning to join…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoJust getting to this today & realised after reading this thread that I was reading the beginning of the chapter too! In my defence, it’s interesting!
I might try the exercises on my winter challenge story being as I’ve only got the vaguest idea about my characters in that… wish me luck!! -

Once again, we are going with 3 weeks for this class and are beginning with the class reading.
In your copy of Janet Burroway’s Writing Fiction (tenth edition), please turn to Ch. 3: Building Character (44-45, 63-74) and get reading.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoMy intention was to write everyday and to start using the journal, but I am not there yet! I am still working up to actively arriving at my desktop each day…
I like the sound of your plan, Janeshuff. They look like good, realistic targets.

Who’s doing NaNo? I seem to have lost all my buddies on the website.
-
Hang on, I’m writing! I am. I’ll check the website.
-
My buddies have all gone too 🙁
I’m Athelstone on NaNo. Anybody there?-
I am on and buddies with Silversquidge. But I am struggling with the website as the graphics are all misplaced on my screen.

Gotcha – and Silver Squidge.

I am also being a bit lax in the commenting and writing exercises part, but will aim to be more active on it shortly.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoI shall get my reflections together in the next couple of days. My IRL writing group is reading at a local festival thing tomorrow night, and I seem to have lost my multitasking skills…
With regards to the next seminar, can we share thoughts on how it’s gone so far over the next few days.

AND its GE day and I am finding that *very* stressful.
Me too – and the gloom of the weather doesn’t help. (But I am sure your wip isn’t godawful!)
I’m just dreading hearing the results tomorrow morning…
I would take your cat, Raine. The trouble is, so would my dog
Oh no, that sounds like a day not to be repeated. Hope the WIP sorted itself out, though it’s in great hands so I’m confident it did.
