Interesting. Looks as though SocialGO’s main server for cached files, images, style-sheets (that define the look and layout) is down this morning. The Cloud will look fine if you haven’t cleared your browser cache lately or terrible if you have, or it’s of limited size and the Cloud stuff has been pushed out.

And now it’s back up, which (I think) means my guess about SocialGo is probably close to the truth. They haven’t shut down, but they aren’t bothering to support their side of the operation.

I think they more or less admitted this to Stephen Marks.

It’ll be a shame if it goes down before the comp gets off the ground. Is it worth setting up an emergency contact list? For those that are happy to, I mean?

I think it is Sea

Another excellent blog, Richard. You got me to invest my beer-tokens in Keith Roberts and now it looks like I’ll be blowing the dust off my wallet for James Cabell.

One issue I can foresee with moving the competition here is that when it closes for entries, we may well have entrants who do not wish to join another forum in order to participate. Also, I don’t have a way to contact all members except via the Cloud should it go toes skywards. I think I will be backing up topics and the wall as we go along once…[Read more]

“Mosquito? Nope.” What about a mosquito with a really bad attitude that’s sitting there on the wall hardly able to stay put because of the weight of blood it’s just scoffed out of your cheek just exactly where EVERYBODY will think it’s a spot, and planning just how to make its saliva more proteiny and anti-coagulanty and generally irritating. But…[Read more]

Thanks all. I hope the extra pressure on the Cloud isn’t breaking it. I notice that things like style sheets and image files aren’t loading straight away which does some odd things to the Cloud’s appearance. I wonder if SocialGo have stopped routine tasks that keep the system in good order.

Well, I’m probably woofing bonkers, but I’m running a new annual short story challenge over on the WordCloud. Only minutes after posting and people have signed up already. My view is ‘flush those people out’ and if we love ’em get ’em over here to the Den. And keep the Cloud going as well. Let the Writing Forums proliferate. I know many of my…[Read more]

Maybe I’m just too old for this computer stuff, but I find that a number of factors are hampering my ‘getting around’ here. 1) Something of a lack of distinction in size and position between various different bits of information and e.g. various headings etc, so that, for instance, information about topics, last updated etc. seems to merge with…[Read more]
