Hi Elle,
I really enjoyed this, and it works for me! It’s the classic issue of the ex, right? The one you can never compete with properly. I like it.
Only spotted one typo: “She was the seed of doubt planted in me which feed on those silences” – should it be fed?
Great work!

Yes, it was a bit of a million candlepower searchlight moment. In a sense, it’s not that the MC doesn’t try to change, he just completely misinterprets the kind of change he needs. He (and I) had been thinking it was one thing, and it was actually almost the opposite.

Yay! well done @daedalus!
It won’t let me watch it either but I am sure you are engaging, knowledgeable and quietly authoritative 🙂

I must remember to watch it next trip to the UK.

Wow! That’s a powerful revelation, @daedalus. (And also a powerful validation of how story works according to this arc, no? And the fact that you didn’t even realise until just now is kind of spine tinglingly spooky, like you can’t trick the subconscious who just KNOWS what works a whole lot better than the conscious).

Thanks all! This is my second TV credit, but the first was only for archive materials and this is definitely my first proper TV appearance. I don’t think I did too badly, though no doubt a lot of editing was required!

Wooooah! I’ve just had a massive revelation about my MC. I thought that he accepted the necessary change, but it just turned out badly. I actually think he got completely the wrong idea about what change was needed, spectacularly FAILED to change…and that’s what ends badly.

Well done indeed, Daeds. Authoritative, erudite and lucid. Once again you display that knack you have of making technical things clear to the layman.

I can finally mention this, after almost missing the opportunity. Last year I was filmed as an ‘on screen expert’ for the Quest series Wings of War. I pop up several times in Episode 6 of Season 1 as ‘Matthew Willis, Naval Aviation Historian’. I think the programme has turned out pretty well – nice and accessible to people who don’t know a great…[Read more]

Before I start writing (these days, anyway) I need to know the beginning (obviously) and some idea of the ending, but not necessarily everything that happens in between. Nothing is set in stone, though, and either may change before I’ve finished, depending on what happens along the way.
The two novels I’m prepared to own up to came about in quite…[Read more]

How intersting Sea. I have a couple of short stories that are often in the back of my mind as having potential to develop into something else. And back story is often the first idea that comes to me and then I have to work out how the situation will play out in the now.
Yes, Raine, I absolutely have to know where the setting is, or I can’t w…[Read more]

I don’t want to bring up the age-old planners vs pantsers conversation but I am interested in knowing what you do and how you work on your ideas before setting virtual and or real pen to paper. How do your ideas arrive? Do you sit down and consciously think about the theme, the characters and the plot? Or do bits and pieces of ideas come to you a…[Read more]

Yes, sorry, meant to congratulate the worthy winner – great, unsettling and dreamlike tale that owns the innate silliness of the tiny guitar and the bizarre phenomenon of the vast ukulele band. Great stuff, and thanks Sea for a challenging and fun competition

Congratulations Jonathan, fascinating story – sounds like there’s a lot more to it than in the words on the virtual page. And congratulations to everybody who entered. I’m in awe of how you manage to come up with stories at the drop of a hat. Every month I read the prompts and think I’ll have a go but somehow I never do. Maybe this month….
