This is fab, Raine. Not surprised though. About time you won some recognition. Well done.

Liking your thinking, Daeds, as I’d like to partake, but commitments have stopped me of late. Bi-monthly and an occasional easy challenge sounds good. Perhaps an ‘over to you’ now and then (when the winner is struggling to set the theme) or indeed, an excerpt from a WIP. I also like the sound of not having to do all the judging if you win, which…[Read more]

The jury’s out for me as yet, Athers. It depends on whether I get a reply from DHH re Doris. If he doesn’t want it, I might be tempted to take it to York. I’m also mulling over going only Saturday and meeting old friends, though it depends on how many are going.

Hugs and chocolate and inspiration pills being sent over the ether now. Waiting for those replies doesn’t help, does it?

Janette started the topic Warnings in the forum The Writers' Lifeboat 7 years, 2 months ago
I’ve set up this link that we have a place to warn each other of bad experiences in the writing world, or other words of caution we wish to pass on.
I’ll kick it off with something I came across while catching up on my Writers’ Forum magazine reading last night. This month’s issue features a warning that some short story magazines are beginning t…[Read more]

Just saw the news on the main wall. Congratulations, Stevie! Great to hear what the comps on here are producing.

Wow, Daeds, that comparison is a real eye opener. I wonder which will go best on a CV? He really has showed himself up for what he is IMHO.

Alan, I had the same experience of SW – she spent 5 of my 10 minutes saying how she hated my title (which my next 1-1 liked!) and was dismissive and unpleasant. I would never recommend her.
… but thanks for the link, Philippa.-
That’s interesting. I thought it might just have been me. And my other 1-1 was fine. It could suggest the real problem is with SS, but it’s not for me to speculate.
-
Slightly hesitant to pile on as I have not met her personally, but she was on a Jericho Writers slush pile live webinar and was on the whole negative.
-
Thing is, a bad attitude towards a newbie writer from a ‘serious’ agent could shatter confidence. I don’t know if anyone from Jericho writers reads these comments, but I do feel they should be aware of the perils of employing such a negative person.
I shrugged it off as meaningless, because my feeling as I approached her at the 1-1 table was that…[Read more]

Sorry, John, I should amend my previous statement to ‘one of the highest’, though at 1200ft above sea-level, we’re pretty damned high.

@johnalty, I do like to write flash fiction, however at the moment I’ve had to put my blinkers on and concentrate on my current WIP as an agent has asked for the full once I do some requested adjustments. Sorry it rules me out of current comps at least, but I’m hoping it will all be worth it.
-
Wow, good luck with that.
Actually I wasn’t drumming up business for the comp, it was a bit of silliness based on the claim by Flash, in the Peak District, to be the highest village in England.-

I live in the highest village in England and we have a light dusting. However lots of ice – needed to put my foot to the car to open its door today.
-
Just a light dusting here.
@Janette, do you write Flash fiction?-
@janette, I had to do some serious door-wrestling too. Whilst thinking ‘how hard can you yank on a door handle before you snap it off?’
And @athelstone, glad to hear the foxes are feeling spring-like, despite all evidence to the contrary! -

Woke to a thin crunchy layer on Thursday; mostly gone by teatime. We’re ~ a dozen miles from the east coast.

Oh, good luck with that one, Raine – I love doing research, but alas can’t help you on this occasion.
I love the idea of a group to share locations though, @janeshuff. I’m basing my wip on West Yorkshire (where I live), namely the 60s era, but am more than willing to share info on my part of town. -

Sounds like a typical holiday, apart from feeding the martens, which sounds cool. Enjoy racking up some memories – writing can always come later.

It’s an outrage! And then I have to pretend to be interested in what happened at some meeting! 😱
Mine just stomped out because I didn’t stop typing, which didn’t have anything to do with I want to get in with my WIP while interest is still being shown. No, it was ignorance.
I have to answer inane questions about what we need from the shops while my MC is hanging off a crumbling cliff waiting for me to find an escape…
So that’s eggs, milk, helicopter, rope…
@johnalty THat made me laugh!!
Ha @johnalty 🙂 My solution is for husband to go away for a month at a time. Space in marriage is much underestimated 🙂
