NaNo generally works for me because I am patchy about my output the rest of the time, and my biggest challenge is just getting enough words down on paper to work on. That said, I can totally understand why it doesn’t work for some people, and in fairness there have been years when it worked brilliantly for me and other years when I churned out…[Read more]

I might do it. Even if only to get some stuff on paper as I’m nowhere near ready to actually write anything new. Plus I’ve got my sister coming for a long week in the middle of November… When do you have to commit?

If you take notes during the interview Squidge you can totally count that towards your totals 😉
It’s not ideal to miss the first day, but NaNo gives you a running daily target based on what you’ve already done. It’s quite addictive chasing the targets, I find

I’m doing NaNo this year. In process of planning new novel ready to start. I’m on there as ThrowingCopper if anyone wants to buddy up? 😊
(Think I’m already buddies with you, Ath and Daed.)

PS Discipline…what’s that?

Squidge replied to the topic NaNoWriMo in the forum Coffee Shop 7 years, 6 months ago
So does that mean we have to come clean on our daily word count? Oh Lord, I really WILL have to buck my ideas up!
Am I allowed the 1st November off? Interview day for candidates for the new vicar…and guess who’s one of the interviewers? 😉 -

Haha, recrossed with you Squidge. Yeah, why not? Let’s buddy up

@squidge They’re a lot more relaxed these days about what qualifies – it’s pretty much 50k words of anything. I just find the discipline it gives useful over the course of a month

HA! Just crossed with Daeds – Daeds, shall we form a novel finishing club?!!

Squidge replied to the topic NaNoWriMo in the forum Coffee Shop 7 years, 6 months ago
Is there a version for NaNoFiMo? (National Novel Finishing Month) I really must get moving on the WIP, but I’ve stalled with everything else going on and I cannot get motivated to write at all. Keep knitting instead…

I might do it but cheat and use it to finish the draft of my WIP plus a novella and some shorts

Squidge replied to the topic Opinion about title in the forum The Writers' Lifeboat 7 years, 6 months ago
I wouldn’t have said that any of them give any indication as to the target readership. I’d just assume it was an unusual character name, with possibly a hint of sci-fi, but it doesn’t give anything away about the story.

JaneShuff replied to the topic Opinion about title in the forum The Writers' Lifeboat 7 years, 6 months ago
Without any other information I would assume the title was the name of the MC (or just possibly an invented country) and guess that it was YA or children’s fairy story or fantasy

Daedalus replied to the topic Controlling Idea / Downsizing in the forum Coffee Shop 7 years, 6 months ago
Sometimes definitely control! E.g. ‘Suffering a tyrant may be bad but tyrannicide leads to civil war, which is worse’ – see Plutarch via Shakespeare via this morning’s ‘In Our Time’ 😉
As Orwell wrote ‘Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past’ – and to my mind, the past = the historical narrative =…[Read more]

The time between?
Between times?
The Time Snatcher of London Towns?
A shadow of time… (working on from Jonathan’s suggestions)
A shadow in time?I really hate titles sometimes!;)

Ooooh. I like The Time Stealer! But I’m also wondering, since this is meant to be a trilogy or a series, could you have two titles – one for the trilogy and one for each book. So it could be The Time Stealer Trilogy. The individual titles could possibly be linked in some way. Like the chess theme that runs through the titles of the books in…[Read more]

I like that way of putting it. Helpful.
I haven’t seen ‘Downsizing’ but it sounds like a film that is a bit overloaded with ideas and ends up getting lost among them.

I like the ‘Here Ends…’, but what to say is ending.
…the Seven Years of Pain
…the Seven Years of Separation.
Why not something like Seven Years Apart or The seven years of separation. The End Begins Here…? Just playing now!I also wonder if some of the other themes are more relevant to the title? There are an awful lot of themes going…[Read more]
