It’s that time again. There’s a new group in town. Head on over to “All You Need” for details of the new Short Story Challenge.
All are welcome. -

Hi @Daedalus
Thanks for taking time out to answer my thoughts.
I hadn’t thought of it that way before, that film/video is better at placing significant information in the background of shots. That’s something that can be difficult in writing — at least I find it difficult — and often requires a setting to be introduced earlier than the.…[Read more]

Have just logged on to see that big congratulations are in order to Richard, Kate, Athelstone, and Daedalus! Well done all of you on your CAS listings! 🙂

I did the same with this reply as so often before: typed it, went to check something, got distracted, forgot all about it, closed the laptop, assumed I’d sent it.
Mark 2.
Thanks @daedalus. I find that I remebered more than I thought, although We’reNot in Kansas Any More had eluded me for a bit. The two earlier ones were first, the Intercity…[Read more]

2014-15 – Here and There
2015-16 – Not in Kansas Any More
2016-17 – Now and Then
2017-18 – Whispers and Glances
2018-19 – A Room with a View
Those were the ones I took part in. I think there may have been one or two before I joined the Cloud, one of them called Intercity.

Oh, yes, 2016/17 was penultimate one wholly on the Cloud (Alan’s last challenge: Now and Then). Was yours Craquelure, a rather unnerving and powerful story about a painting?
Kate’s was from 2017/18 (My first Challenge: Whispers and Glances)
Mine was from 2014/15 (can anybody remember all the theme names on th Cloud? I know some)

I think you’re right.
There’s another challenge brewing. Should be up in a week or so.

Daedalus replied to the topic CAS longlist in the forum Podium 3 years, 9 months ago
And quite right it is too!
Am I right in supposing that at least three of the four listed stories from Denizens were from Den or Cloud winter challenges? (Mine was from the 2016-17 challenge, which iirc was the penultimate one to be wholly staged on the Cloud)

Thank you one and all. I’ve had a good feeling about this story ever since I knocked out the original version for last winter’s challenge in three days flat, but never in my wildest dreams did I envision it would do this well. Well, in my wildest dreams maybe, but not anywhere else.
The result has bolstered my faith in my writing ability, though…[Read more]

Brilliant news Richard – a fantastic story that absolutely deserves the recognition, and that goes for the writer too

Athelstone replied to the topic CAS longlist in the forum Podium 3 years, 9 months ago
So please, Richard. A brilliant and moving story, written with an intensity but also a subtlety that really marks it out.

Brilliant news, Richard! Many congratulations.
And Kate too. Really good.

RichardB replied to the topic CAS longlist in the forum Podium 3 years, 9 months ago
Thank you, Kate. Yes, it is. Once again I seem to have missed the boat to be the first to announce it, but hey, who cares? After writing and submitting two novels and getting 60% form rejections and 40% no reply at all, it does feel rather good to have got some validation at last.
Bitter, moi? Not just at the moment.

Is that yours in second place, Richard!! Huge congratulations.

Hi Knicks – what sort of editorial review are you looking for. There is the pretty standard book doctor report, a deeper developmental edit that I’ve heard of offered by Jericho, or mentoring.
I’ve recently gone down the mentoring path, because I wanted the opportunity for some personal back and forth with an editor, rather than just a book…[Read more]

For a start, you could try Jericho Writers, which is what the Writers’ Workshop, sponsors of the old Word Cloud, morphed into a few years back.
Sorry, I can’t make the kink go live without the entire post vanishing. You’ll have to copy and paste.
