A place for Stupid Questoins 5 years, 10 months agoWhat a brilliant set of answers and examples to a most important question, I’ve been writing fiction ten years now but still forgetting how this one works. Thaks fir asking it, Andrew. And well done Jane for mentioning Emma’s blog – taught me so much.

A place for Stupid Questoins 5 years, 10 months agoShowing and telling is a tricky one and there are many situations where telling something is 100% right and others where showing is 100% right. The reverse is also true.
Jake was acting suspiciously when I met him at the cafe. He looked cagey and only told me about Jane when he was sure nobody else could hear him.
Jake sidled through the cafe…[Read more]

A place for Stupid Questoins 5 years, 10 months agoHi Andrew. The only stupid questions are the ones you don’t ask and it doesn’t matter how ‘far’ along the learning the craft of writing journey you are, there are still more things to find out about and old things to be reminded about.
Emma Darwin’s blog The Itch of Writing has a host of useful blogs if you haven’t come across it already. This…[Read more]

A place for Stupid Questoins 5 years, 10 months agoHi Andrew
I’ve got lots of that toilet paper with little black writing on it stashed all over the place too. It wasn’t until I began to interact with other writers and receive feedback that I started to learn. There’s a daunting amount of craft to get to grips with and I don’t think you ever stop learning.
As to your question, the way I look at…[Read more]

A place for Stupid Questoins 5 years, 10 months agoI’m not sure if there are any other novices in the Den, but I’m hoping there are those who can help us out if we are sufficient in number. I’m relatively new to the Den and by way of an introduction, I thought I would create this group because it fits my stage in the process.
I have been terribly slow to realise that I need to learn about…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 2 months agoSorry – not been in for a couple of days. Is this still an issue for people (it’s not for me, but I’m the admin…)? I’ll change group to public then back to private and see if that sorts it – let me know.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 2 months agoSorry I went quiet – forgot I existed again. It happens.
Okay, I am going to set up the next class starting this coming Monday, so we have a few days to mentally prepare.

Thanks WB!

Thanks WB! And by the way the group has disappeared from view – I can only get into it by going to the Activity thread and clicking on something like this. Apparently I’m not the only one. Ath had a similar issue with a hidden private group and he says this:
“I searched through activity in my limited admin dashboard (top left where there’s a d…[Read more]

IGNORE ME! Sorry @woolleybeans, I thought you were the Admin because you were organising the classes – I forgot it was Raine, who has now sorted it. Soz x

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 2 months agoYep, it’s vanished again. When I list “My Groups” the caption says 1 to 10 of 10 groups, but it only actually lists 8, i.e. the DIY MA and my Testing Text groups are hidden from me too.
The workaround seems to be to for the group admin to unhide the group – change its setting to a private group.

Clicking on the link in the ‘replied to’ bit of the above does bring it back.
-
And there’s another slightly awkward feature of WordPress/BBPress/BuddyPress whichever. I posted as a reply to a topic but you were able to reply to my post when it was shown as “Activity” rather than in the context of the Topic. So your reply isn’t included in replies to the Topic.
Confused of Worthing.

But I’m now replying via the Topic. (Remember when they used to be chocolate bars, with nuts and caramel?)

And your post of 11.22 isn’t here either.

All good fun, isn’t it?

Allegedly …

And yes, you’re right. If you follow the link to the Topic then you’re taken back into the Group Forum. But this relies on having a post handy with a link in it. All it takes is for the group to go quiet for a few days and for the last thread to sink a bit down the Activities and it starts to get trickier.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 2 months agoI searched through activity in my limited admin dashboard (top left where there’s a dial thing) and found some test posts on my hidden forum. When I un-hid it (using “manage”) it popped back into existence and is listed under my groups. I’m just going to try hiding it again to see if it disappears for me as well.
