FWIW, I actually think the phonemail is a really key pivot point! I would recommend keeping this in, and building the structure of the piece as a whole around it, as Kate highlights.
Remember, even though this story is built of a series of vignettes, it still needs to have a narrative arc. The phone call gives you a useful turning point, and the…[Read more] -

Hi Elle,
Sorry it’s taken me a while to get to this.I really enjoyed this. I think it’s an incredibly realistic portrayal of depression, especially the sense of complete hopelessness and almost indifference that invades. She almost simply accepts and embraces her “fate”, to the point where (for me) suicide in the bath seemed like simply the next…[Read more]

*Writing, even!
* How * about you…-
As my husband is an electrician, that made me smile!
I had the big agent sign me thing, which was amazing, but then he couldn’t get a publisher to take a chance on my book as it was set in America and I’m British, so dropped me. Then an Indie publisher, Urbane books, signed it and it was published last year ( Nemesister) and the sequel is out on…[Read more]

We’ve returned from FoW. It was fantastic to catch up with Julie, John, Giselle, Debi, and of course our star, Mandy. (Hope I’ve not missed anyone? I know not everyone went this year.)
-
Janette was there. Lots of familiar faces but I’ve lost track of who’s in the Den. Isn’t Hel here? She won Friday Night Live! Lots of pix on my FB.
-
Loads of Denizens there by the look of the photos. Seems a great time was had by all! One of these years I’ll have to sell a vital organ and come too
-
I had a fab time too! Sorry we didn’t bump into one another, but let’s make amends another time.

Thanks Raine,
I’m realising I am forming a habit of having “successes” with books I haven’t actually written yet! I mean, no pressure… -

Hi Deads, I can write a blog, but I’m only going to be at the Festival for the Sunday, so I’m not sure how helpful it will be!

Skylark, you know you are my inspiration! I’ve watched what you’ve achieved, and I’m just like, “I want that!” It is lovely to see your “journey” from start to finish. I am so looking forward to your speech. xxx
