Anyone (esp. @jillybean or @athelstone) able to tell me why the MA course posts are visible on the main wall to non-members even though the group is set to private? When I’m logged out I can see all the posts but can’t click on them to get into the group. Will making the group hidden make any difference?
-
They are visible to anyone who is part of the group on the main wall, I think. How are you accessing them? Activity – all members? Activity – my groups? I will check under admin but I think it’s just because you’re part if the group.
-
Yes, but if I’m logged out shouldn’t I just be like any other punter looking at the site? I tried logging out and clearing my browser cache and I can still see all the posts. I also grabbed Mrs Athelsone’s laptop and I can see the posts from that – and she isn’t a Denizen or anything.
-
@raine you could try making the group hidden. Members will still be able to read and post etc. No idea whether the issue is in WordPress, BBPress, or BuddyPress – the relationships are a bit of a nightmare.
-
Have made the group hidden. Will look into it further as I suspect this will not fix the issue. There is deginitely a problem but only with this specific group so far. Will see what I can do.
-
There’s definitely something odd here. If I log out and go to “Groups”, then the MA Course is visible but marked private and I can’t get into it – which is right. If I go to “Writers’ Forum” the MA Course forum is listed, but the only other forums there are the public ones. I can’t get into the MA Course forum this way as it tells me to log on,…[Read more]

Ah, events have overtaken me!

Bizarrely, even with the group hidden, the forum posts are still splashed on the Activity page

I’ve lost all your replies, but saw most of them I think before they vanished. THank-you for looking into it. It does just seem to be this particular group, which I would take personally, but the other group I set up doesn’t have this problem!!
-
The good news is that it’s a randomly occurring issue which doesn’t just affect this site. The bad news is well the same. Still running a few plugin repairs but I’ll get back to you.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoAgreed, @Janeshuff and @hilary re the tiny details being evocative. I always struggle when someone is describing some room or building in perfect (perhaps even gorgeous!) detail. I’d rather just know one or two small, precise things that tell the story all on their own. So don’t tell me about every feature in some grand rococco drawing room, but…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoInteresting how eclectic your I Remembers are, compared to some of the others – is that because you didn’t set yourself a starting point, or because you naturally skip between thoughts? Although looking at them again, there’s a strong family theme. I love the linking of first date, hugging your dad on your wedding day, and finding the house. And…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoCan’t remember it all, now, and I couldn’t record, but overheard in the gym changing room (possibly TMI!):
My sister bought a laser machine and now she doesn’t have any at all. Anywhere.
How much was it?
It was a few years ago. Three or four hundred I think. She just zapped the hairs every time they grew back. What do you use?
Immac. Every…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoI love your gorgeousness!! And *stands up* I am Raine and I too am an overwriter! 😀
There are so many images you’ve got there that are stunning & the whole is profoundly evocative. I particularly like the ‘She needed another word for this sea, because sparkle or glitter or shimmer were not savage enough. They did not hurt.’ Because that is such…[Read more] -

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoJust catching up with some of these posts. I love the peas, Squidge!! Ah, conversations with small children are so much more fun from the outside!!
The dream descriptions held a nice sense of disconnect, I think, and interesting that trying to deliberately write gorgeous felt so forced. Is it a sense that searching for additional descriptions is…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoBeauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say, and I certainly feel that way about Le Guin’s gorgeous passages. Some were more gorgeous than others. It’s all very subjective. But I have to say that your gorgeous is also my gorgeous. I absolutely loved that piece. “a clatter of kaleidoscope birds” – sublime.

First day
The first day of school was always like this – nervous parents clutching little ones’ hands, milling in a crowd of growing frenzy. The sooner they were decoupled and the parents moved firmly on their way, the better it would be for everyone. But first reassurance was needed.
I moved through the group, cutting apron strings when no one…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 8 months agoHmm. Gorgeous is as gorgeous does, but I did enjoy wallowing in my words, which was the point I guess. Haven’t captured much dialogue yet, for the past week I seem to be on a very noisy trams, or too far away from people talking or alternatively next to non-English speakers or silent people reading or on phones. Will keep trying!
