And I’ve literally just seen this thread on perseverance from Joanne ‘Chocolat’ Harros on Twitter, so in case it’s helpful here:

I know of another writer who does similar stuff (and is absolutely brilliant) but has had a tough time getting agents interested enough to take them on. I wonder if it would be possible to track genres and styles that are more or less likely to attract attention quicker – not so people can tailor their writing so much as know what to expect when subbing

No problem. It looks like a decent prize at any rate!

Interesting. Looks as though SocialGO’s main server for cached files, images, style-sheets (that define the look and layout) is down this morning. The Cloud will look fine if you haven’t cleared your browser cache lately or terrible if you have, or it’s of limited size and the Cloud stuff has been pushed out.

And now it’s back up, which (I think) means my guess about SocialGo is probably close to the truth. They haven’t shut down, but they aren’t bothering to support their side of the operation.
-
I think they more or less admitted this to Stephen Marks.

It’ll be a shame if it goes down before the comp gets off the ground. Is it worth setting up an emergency contact list? For those that are happy to, I mean?

I think it is Sea

Another excellent blog, Richard. You got me to invest my beer-tokens in Keith Roberts and now it looks like I’ll be blowing the dust off my wallet for James Cabell.

Totally barking, Ath, but very very well done!
MPO is that if the cloud goes then all communication with participants goes too and you aren’t responsible for that. Attempting to continue with a subset wouldn’t be the same competition, would it?

One issue I can foresee with moving the competition here is that when it closes for entries, we may well have entrants who do not wish to join another forum in order to participate. Also, I don’t have a way to contact all members except via the Cloud should it go toes skywards. I think I will be backing up topics and the wall as we go along once…[Read more]

I found the Cloud has been slower and more erratic than ever over last few days. Could be coincidental or coukd be increased activity I guess. Suggest that everyone keeps a record of their choices and the story when it comes to it, just in case.

I was wondering that, but it was happening to me just as much before the announcement.
Without wishing to sound too pessimistic, what happens if the Cloud finally breaks beyond fixing before the conclusion of the challenge?

Thanks PB – I realised when I blogged about this on the Cloud it was almost a couple of years ago and there had been some significant developments by then. I’ll put something in the Lifeboat in the next couple of days

The fairly prestigious Masters Review has a flash fiction (by which they mean anything below 1000 words) contest.
“Our love of flash fiction runs deep. We are proud to now offer a contest dedicated solely to flash twice a year. This is the first time we have offered a summer contest for tiny and mighty fiction. The winning writer will be a…[Read more]

Also while keeping an open mind to the feedback you receive, don’t forget you’re in charge and you can ‘Accept, adapt, reject’. You don’t have to take on board all advice you’re given and the best way to decide what is and isn’t useful is to read feedback and then give yourself time to think about it, coming back to it after a little break with a…[Read more]
