Using a tried and trusted formula, I’d like you to start with the opening line of track 11 from Arab Strap’s ‘As days get dark’ and take it wherever you will. Maximum word count 350 please, deadline Friday 30th April.

“And it’s just enough to hurt, it’s just enough to make its mark”.

@sandradavies Didn’t work out the way I wanted, and too late to be of any use, but I thought I’d post it anyway… 🙂

    EROSION

And it’s just enough to harm
It’s just enough to make its mark

Is it just me, or has that guy got a voice like a Brillo pad?
    Actually…
    …could you turn it down?
    It’s making me maudlin.
    No, seriously. Turn it down.
Or, better yet, turn it off.

Oh, for God’s sake, could you just this ONCE do as I ask without the interrogation?
    >
    D’you know what?
I’m not even going down this route. Turn the damn thing off!
    >
Why has everything always got to be about you?
    >
Okay, so obviously, this is just another instance of your feelings being so much more important than mine. Well, I’m tired of playing second fiddle. In fact, I’m tired of you.
    >
Oh, bravo! But there’s no point turning it down now. It’s too bloody late!
    >
You know, I read somewhere – probably in one of those books you hate so much – that we are the authors of our own story.
    Do you think that’s true?
Because if it is, I’m changing the main character in mine. Swapping out this weary, downtrodden and miserable old cow for one who’s got her head on straight.
A woman who’s strong and resilient.
    Who believes in herself.
Oh, Lord, look at me, all snot and snivel. Where’s those bloody tissues?

I can’t do anything about the backstory, of course, it’s who am I. But what happens next… now that’s a different thing altogether.
Although I’m guessing the plot won’t be all sunshine and roses.
I mean, there has to be obstacles, right? Otherwise there’s no growth.
And if there’s no growth, there’s no transformation.
I really, really, want there to be a transformation.
    >
Oh! Ooh! I’ve just thought of something truly amazing.
I can delete you from my story completely.
And swap you out for a dog.

    @Seagreen

Good heavens!! What happened to April? I completely forgot I’d set a competition, was somewhat startled to discover it was May, but I do like this – rings some bells since, apart from invisible, April seems to have been a retrospective month, for more than me.

So without further ado, I’m handing the baton for May’s competition to you – and thank you!!

Um… not sure that’s what I intended when I posted but, since it’s you, I’ll run with it 🙂

I’ll get my thinking cap on and come back to this.
