RaineParticipantA few places that are good for finding places open to submissions for your flashes, shorts, poetry, novella-in-flash etc etc.:
Submittable – https://manager.submittable.com Lots of journals use this as their submissions portal, but you can also search current opportunites.
Christopher Fielden – https://www.christopherfielden.com/ Keeps lists plus commentary, which he updates every few months or so.
Entropy Magazine – https://entropymag.org/category/where-to-submit/ lists opportunites both in their mag and elsewhere. Updated every couple of months.
A couple of thoughts – I’d avoid places that charge you to submit. I’d also check the journals for e.g. how long they’ve been running, how much of a ‘following’ they have etc. There are lots of teensy online journals that are one step away from shouting into the void. Check whether they allow simultaneous submissions – most do, some don’t. They all have slightly different submissions guidelines, so double check!

WoolleybeansParticipantFantastically helpful, you beautiful liminal creature, you.

Debi AlperParticipantYou do all know about ShortStops, run by the wonderful Tania Hershman, don’t you? https://shortstops.info/ The regular emails she sends out list all the events and comps in one place.

WoolleybeansParticipantDebi, please do not assume that, as a collective, we know anything.

John TParticipantI second that, WB – I’d never heard of ShortStops.

Debi AlperParticipantHa! Point taken. I will assume nothing and you can all shout at me if I say something you definitely do know about.

John TParticipantNow signed up to ShortStops: job done 🙂

DaedalusParticipantI was already signed up to shortstops but I’m quite happy for people to post things that they see here too, even if they are duplicated elsewhere – I often miss things in the email list and it helps to have reinforcement

RaineParticipantTHank-you Debi! Shortstops had not come across my radar. Or it had, but my radar is on the blink. 🙂
It’s a nice little motivation/acheivement boost to send short things out, I find. Particularly in the midst of endless edits, or horrible waiting-for-responses.

JanetteParticipantInteresting links, and thank you, Raine and Debi, for the links. At the moment I have blinkers on, ignoring as much as I can to stop me being over distracted from my WIP, but I will look these up another time.

GiselleParticipantThanks all, very useful.
I’m sure many know it, but Mslexia has their children’s novel competition; deadline this september 30th. Just for the women amongst us. I’m polishing up the dragons and submitting.
