Yes a space for a mini CV would be nice.
Also, my browser tab for Den Of Writers has a blank icon – it’s called a favicon there are instructions for how to set it here https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4888377/how-to-add-a-browser-tab-icon-favicon-for-a-website – simplest method is to get the icon perhaps as a PNG file, rename the file to…[Read more]

The competition group was open, so I don’t think there’s a problem posting the names of those who had already signed up here. Several are already here, but it would be great to see whether we could get the rest. I worry about one or two who may not be quite so internet-savvy and I tend to take Barny’s point – it would be a great shame not to…[Read more]

Hi Graeme. And hi everyone else I’ve not said hi to yet. There’s a lot of you, and I’ve only just figured out how to get into the forums while I’m in work.

Oh I’ll try to tweet all my writing tweets with #DenOfWriters for the next wee while (i.e., for as long as I remember to do it).
And I’ve created the twitter account @denofwriters too, so we can tag that in if we want to. Anyone who wants to follow it, fire ahead. I might pass that on to someone else who has the time to administer it, but for now,…[Read more] -

Good luck PB. You’ve done the hard part (getting yourself Out There), now comes the harder part (waiting).
On that Juliet/Jessie B cover letter, I felt very conflicted reading it, because while the letter was great and it obviously worked for her/them, there was definitely a level of familiarity and bravado (not sure if that’s the right term, but…[Read more] -

That’s a good idea, Debi. Any suggestions? #writingden ? #denofwriterforum ?

This is great, Gipps. I love Jane Friedman’s blogs – I’ve found so many helpful resorces on her site over the last couple of years. Rhanks for posting 🙂

I hesitated about posting a general update about the Den too. But I think you’re all right – I’m sure I’m in contact with some Cloudies on twitter, FB and email so I’ll set up a smoke signal and see who responds. Maybe everyone else could do the same?
You could definitely hold the challenge here, Ath, assuming you’re happy to. I think you’d get a…[Read more] -

Well, looking at my last post, the Cloud seems to have only lasted a few days. I have a full list of all the members who joined the group, and a record of all the choices made before the Cloud fell over. What I didn’t have time to do was to collect contact addresses so that the competition could be resurrected at another venue. Time for a think.

Hi Elle, thanks for posting this, I really enjoyed reading it. There were some lovely lines. I liked ‘The ends of his sentences never curved into questions’. I loved the structure and the slow reveal through the different episodes. As Jane said, I’d never have known it wasn’t written by a native English speaker. Part of my ‘day job’ is editing boo…[Read more]

Wow. I really enjoyed this Elle. And the second person worked very well for me. It didn’t feel at all self-conscious which I think it often does. It also reads as though it was written by an English native.
A couple of very minor points:
Sam throws up his arms a couple of times in swift succession which jarred for me.
This bit – His lips on…[Read more]

Can’t believe the cloud simply doesn’t exist any more… Calling myself a Dennie doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. So what DO we call ourselves here? Suggestions welcome…
-
Yes, it is very sad, but we can’t say we weren’t warned. How about DENizens?
-
Denizens
-
Although I also like Den-dwellers
-
Denizens 🙂
-
Denizens!
-
I like Denizens. Den Dwellers is rather good too 🙂
And yes that sudden complete failure was a bit of a shock!

Denofians is my suggestion, but TBH I prefer denizen.
-
Q: What do we call ourselves here?
A: Anything as long as it’s polite -
Denizens. Although, I might be more of a denlet than an izen. 😉
-
I was thinking denizens too.
-
Not ‘Dense’ then?
-
Denizens – I like. And @sandradavies – just look at the folks already here. Definitely not dense in any way, shape or form! 😉
-
Dentists? Maybe not …
-
Sorry Squidge – I’m editing :-(, but a quick look at the OED suggests ‘dendrite’ -‘crystalline growth , or ‘denatant’ – the migration of fish. I rather like denominator …

Denizens perfect 😀

Fingers crossed for you PB.
Kaz, I agree it is a very fine line. I think business like and to the point is good. They want to read fast and to be able to extract the important information from your letter asap and then get to the book. I am sure many people here have watched Piers Blofield (spelling?) on you tube showing how he deals with his…[Read more]
