That’s amazing Elle, well done. Thoroughly deserved, of course. I love your craft, your prose is amazing and you’re one of those writers where every word is perfectly chosen, so I look forward very much to the result!

CoronaMo 6 years, 2 months agoSubmitted a bunch of flash things to various magazines today AND did my monthly comp entry. For day 1 of homeschooling, I’m giving myself a gold star! 🙂
-
Well done, Raine. I managed a newsletter and 1000 words of current wip but a) I don’f have children so I did not have home schooling to contend with and b) every one of those words felt like I extracted them with pliers!
-
Gold star is well-deserved!
-
Well done, Raine.

That’s good going, Raine. Your comp entry is amazing.

Aw fankyoo! I am pantsing everything (writing and life) at the moment, but it was a fun one to write. 🙂
-
Pantsing seems to be working very well for you 🙂

Spring-Hollow Secret God Sleeping
Bring withy willows with you to weave a net on a night when the moon rides high. We will catch her face in the black mirror at our feet, dance her widdershins and threefold so that our withies weave moonlight all around.
Bring silver sage and silver blades and your hair hanging…[Read more]

Okay, so there’s danger in crowds. So let’s escape from the crowded city and go to the seaside, or the country………where we will crowd out the beaches and the cafés and the ice-cream stands…

That is what has happened here, Richard, and now the beaches and coastal paths are closed.

WTF is so hard to understand about social distancing? It drives me bonkers to see how people behave. I have a very large personal space zone at the best of times, which is serving me well. I have become adept at managing my supermarket trolley to keep people at a distance.

We’ve a very popular chippy in our harbour. It, and every other food place in the village had switched to take out/delivery only, which seemed doable for keeping them in business. But there were so many tourists day-tripping or holiday-house-visiting at the weekend that the chippy queue went down the street, meaning that they’ve had to take the…[Read more]

This emergency really does seem to be bringing out the worst in people – and I don’t just mean stupidity. MrsB relayed to me today a news item she’d found on-line, to the effect that refuse collectors are reporting a 30% increase in food waste, some of it still in its packaging. To spell it out, this means that the bastard hoarders are not only…[Read more]

CoronaMo 6 years, 2 months ago“What’s new, Sandra?”
Regrettably, nothing. 42K+ words into my current wip, taking some pains to streamline the process, not make the same mistakes, I realise I am still incapable of identifying, plotting the story until the characters tell me who they are and what is happening.
After a couple of weeks of floundering (necessary, it appears) I…[Read more] -

The Spring Has Sprung
‘The birdies is upon the wing, but that’s absurd.’
Tom was on his hundredth rendition of the poem when I clutched his hand and pointed to the merry-go-round.
‘Look, Tom. Your Uncle Fred and I used to play on that when we were your age. Do you want a go?’
He pulled himself free and ran to it with excited bouncing s…[Read more]

I said on Twitter, but will say again here because this is worth double congratulations …. YAY!!! I’m so delighted for you. Not at all surprised that you’ve found yourself an agent, and cant’ wait to see where you go from here. 🙂

CoronaMo 6 years, 2 months agoI did the decluttering exercise the other day, @janeshuff. But yes @janette, I might try the monthly prompt as a mini-challenge next week. I’ve actually just speed-written 1,300 words of a brand new wip with NO PLANNING WHATSOEVER, which is Very Not Me! I figure in the absence of an ability to concentrate, maybe I should give pantsing a go! 😀
-
@Raine, I feel very guilty about this, but my meeting with the agent today has left me with quite a list of ‘to do’s’ she wants done quickly, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to make the comp.
Re the new wip, best of luck, though I feel it is in very capable hands and sometimes no planning comes up with surprising results! -
@Raine – sounds liberating. Long may it continue.

Don’t anyone worry about the monthly competition. Janette and Jane or anyone else, please don’t feel any pressure to participate. I understand.

CoronaMo 6 years, 2 months agoJust noticed that no-one’s partaken in the monthly comp so far. Might this be a good distraction from that which shall not be mentioned? I’m pretty busy but will try and fit it in.

Wow, brilliant news, Elle. All I can say, apart from well done, is that with that much interest, your book must be top notch!

Thank you for all your lovely comments. I was on the brink of giving up and am so-o glad I didn’t. There is a chance that I will be able to meet with my agent tomorrow, providing lock-down doesn’t happen first. I’ll keep you posted.

CoronaMo 6 years, 2 months agoSo today I wrote lesson plans for a four week writing course I will hopefully be running at Falkland Palace at some point (thanks to @seagreen). Having only taught primary school kids before, I’ll be slightly going to the other extreme audience-wise, I imagine! Likely to feature fewer zombies and superheroes perhaps! Still, it feels quite exciting. 🙂
-
Yay! That sounds fun, and proper writerly work, too. I would do that course in a heartbeat 🙂
-
That sounds fab, @raine! Wish I lived closer, but I’m sure it’ll be a great success. This could be a start of a new opportunity …
-
What fabulous news. The Den is brimming with it at the moment! You’ll be wonder ful!
