Just come to this after reading the first chapter (sorry, I mean’t to read a few days ago and got sidetracked). So this is the guy we meet in the woods? Ace! And I’m assuming we’ve seen a fair bit of him between then and now, so would have already encountered his OCD and the hints of military/prison/crime dribbled into the thoughts. I love the…[Read more]

In a word, yes, would totally read on!! 🙂
Elle has suggested leading with Laura’s PoV, and I do think it might work well that way, partly because we get to know her much better in that short piece of text than we get to know unnamed him. Also because her section is full of suggestions and hooks that I think set up the reader better in terms of…[Read more]

I wonder if the monthly comp needs its own forum, separate from the comps, opportunities etc one. Might make it easier to find, especially as months get added… ?

@jd73 Bluemoose are supposed to be really good aren’t they? One of the big hitter indies. So good luck with them!
@bellam if you are southeast, keep an eye out cos there are loads more of these kinds of things in and around London. Are you on Twitter? They are forever coming up on my TL, and always down south somewhere (sigh). -

@giselle, I was wondering about the set up too. Will it be like job interviews? Erk.
And yeah, it’s great that they are doing this. BUt also really sad that it’s so exceptional, and demonstrates just how London-centric the industry is – that two hours north constitutes venturing into exotic territory!!

@jd73 that’s good news! I guess just make sure the first 3 chapters are different to the old version!
@juliec The agency are a big-ish well established one, with some big name authors and all that jazz. And yeah, any agency actively looking at diversity and accessibility is a good agency, to my mind. 🙂

@janette, yeah chuck one in. There’s probably a fairly small chance of actually being selected to pitch, so no harm in trying out.

Prob worth asking, @jd73. It says not eligible to anyone who’s attended previous pitching sessions, but nothing about previous subs. Maybe pitch to a different agent?

@sandradavies I’ve yet to conquer getting notifications for group updates, or for things I’ve ‘favourited’. The best way I’ve found for groups is from the main activity wall, then click on the My Groups tab. Can also filter to show updates only with the little drop down menu. I am slowly learning to flick between these views to make sure I’m not…[Read more]

I guess in terms of posting small snippets of a wip, or short stories, a closed group has the advantages of privacy, and control over who sees it. Where-as a public post in the Forum will prob get more feedback, allow you to interact with members you dont know as well, but you still have the option of deleting the topic if you want to.…[Read more]

The Place Where You Fell
This is the place where you fell. Your bright swords and old shields faltering. All your angers and all your courage turned the soft earth to mud and the valley must have echoed, it must have echoed to your cries. In the cool dawn, in our houses we can still hear you shouting, and if we come down into the fields, if we…[Read more]

Thank-you so much for your comments, everyone. They are so helpful. Oh wait, I should tag, right, else you might not see it? @jd73, @daedalus and @sandradavies, you are ace. Thank-you. I love the word stochastic too!
@philippaeast – no this isn’t the one with pub/agents, it’s one of the next two and I’m trying to decide which one to throw out…[Read more]

Dammit autocorrect! I’d not spotted the domain thing. Gah.
But thank-you for the vote of confidence. I’ve been vacillating back and forth like you wouldn’t believe!

I’ve tinkered with this about 600 times, and now can’t tell whether the narrator-type voice works for this. It doesn’t stay this ‘external’ beyond this first chapter, but it felt like the best way to tie all the characters and inciting moments together. But now I have doubts…Any thoughts v welcome. (1,500 words ish, but even just thoughts on the…[Read more]

DHH literary agency are holding a pitching event aimed at increasing accesibility for writers outside the southeast! Yay. It’s in York, which honestly, not north. But we take what we can, I guess!

The event is on Dec 1st, but you have to submit and then they’ll invite you to pitch. Check the…[Read more]
