Though the story of every fatal accident is a tragedy for somebody, few are quite so sad as the tale of what is known as the Thirsk railway accident, although it actually happened about three miles north of there. I have perforce had to include some (simplified) signalling technicalities, but you’d need a heart of stone not to be moved by this…[Read more]

Is that video on JW, @philippaeast? I just can’t spot it.

Wow. Thanks @philippaeast. So glad you liked it. I found that slush pile rather depressing, especially when they asked what age group I was writing for. Iβm struggling with it still, so itβs on the back burner for a while while I do something else. I will come back to it but I need some distance first.

Hey @bellam, I just saw an extract of your book on the JW slushpile live video (with the Bent Agency). I thought it was great, and I’m so intrigued about your characters, especially Molly. Hope you’ve worked our your narrative device…. π

Hello everyone, Iβm back (with thanks to Sandra and Raine at Fionaβs fab launch tonight)! So much for my good intentions last year – work took over again – but Iβve now changed things round and Iβm determined to focus on creativity in 2019.
First quarter has been spent indie publishing my third nonfiction book on finance for school leaders…[Read more] -

I was thinking a PM to the setter would be the easiest way, and not putting too much responsibility on a smallish group of people, but we can always try it for a while and see how it goes.
An alternating competitive-non competitive challenge is an option, but how would we decide who set the prompt for the non-competitive months?

Just checked with Steve and apparently an 18 year old is limited to bikes of no more than 125 cc – nippy enough to weave through London traffic, but max speed of ~60mph (and not as nippy as the twist’n’go scooters beloved by street thieves) Once he’s 19 and had has 2 years experience he can go larger.
Happy to answer any other questions on the subject. -

This all sounds good, though I’m not entirely sure how the peer judging would work. Would everyone send scores to the setter, or just people who have volunteered to judge, or some other subgroup?
