That sounds brilliant, Daed! Congratulations. I think one of thr best feelings from writing is knowing that you’ve really connected with your target audience and this definitely falls into that bracket. The comissioned artwork is very exciting too. Remember to come back in October and remind us it’s available 😊🍾🥂

I’ll start, just to kick things off here. I’ve just been looking over the proofs of a new article that will be published in the next issue of The Aviation Historian journal. It’s about a rather wacky American scheme in the late 1940s and early 50s to create seaplane fighters and bombers that could operate from temporary bases in isolated bays,…[Read more]

It didn’t take until ten o’clock on this Bank Holiday Monday morning for someone on social media to call me an ‘unemployed bum claiming to be a writer’

Hi John! Welcome. Have a cup of coffee, or two. The barista will do those fancy patterns in the foam if you ask him nicely.

Hello! NOt seen you for a while- How are things going? Have you had comments back on the wip from agenty-agent?

Hi Raine
Lovely to “see” you. I’m good thanks. Yes…. I got feedback on the novel re-write from Sarah. She was very happy overall with the initial draft (structure, pacing etc.), and then sent me edits on the first third, focused on ensuring all the characterisation, motivations, dynamics etc. were properly set up in the opening act. I’ve ju…[Read more]

Yay, that all sounds so exciting, and you are getting closer and closer to going out on sub! Are Sarah’s edits big or not-too-scary? Will keep edity fingers crossed for you.
Me… ha. Sort of an indie pub deal, sort of an agent offer, sort of several agents who said dont sign till you hear from me, and still havent got back. So yeah. Lots of ugh.
-
Oh man, you must be on tenterhooks!!! What does “sort of an agent offer mean”???
-
Yes, the edits from Sarah are manageable. I had to rewrite the book pretty much from scratch, so I knew there would be plenty editing to do. I don’t mind. It’s nice to have time to transition between signing with an agent and going out on sub.
-
That delay between agent and sub does sound good. I went out about a month after signing with agent, and was reeling a bit!
Agent… It’s a long story. He’s helping with current one, but wants to meet before signing for long term. It’s complicated and I’m still looking elsewhere.
