Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoGorgeousness: My favourite bits were ‘afternoons draped in honey’ and ‘as cleanly as she peeled old skin from a white potato.’ I have been told I overwrite too sometimes. But what does it really mean?
I liked your I remember, too. Many of us chose to capture a single incident, or linked series, in our I remembers. I’ve also done it with…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoYeah, timings are good for me too. As @kazg says – enough time that I can fit it in without feeling like it’s taking away from other stuff.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoIt works for me! Okay, I stumbled over the ‘gorgeous’ writing (which I may have complicated by trying to combine it with ‘something I know nothing about’) but, hey, I can chip away at that as and when.
The journal is up-to-date and close to being a habit, so that’s good, and I’m looking forward to four months of unemployment to help me catch up…[Read more] -

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoI think they are pretty much perfect in length. Enough time for me at this busy point in my life to get to them and do the reading and give it enough thought, but not too much to lose momentum. Very happy with it, thank you! x

Some people will tell you that mice will never come into a house where there’s a cat. They obviously don’t know our cat. I have just seen her sitting and watching with mild interest while, less than a foot from her nose, a mouse nipped out of the woodwork and nicked a piece of food from her bowl. I ask you…

Cats are marvellous and varied. My son’s two cats will hunt down every fly and spider with a total absence of mercy. Others take a far more philosophical approach and yours sounds wonderful.
Many years ago I rented a house which came with a resident cat named Mittens. Mittens was mainly a lethargic house-cat, mooching around from sunny spot to…[Read more]

Yes, our pussy is a gentle, affectionate creature with an almost total lack of the predatory instinct, which makes her a useless mouser but a lovely companion. Our friends who stayed with us weekend before last fell so in love with her they threatened to take her home with them.
-
One of our cats is a complete softie too. He recently spent a whole weekend lying with/on a very poorly wee girl who, whilst cuddling him, laughed for the first time in months.
-
Love my cat – until he decides he’s hungry at 4.30am. Or climbs into my lap while I’m knitting/writing/reading. Or brings in a bird. He’s very tolerant, too – Mr Squidge often plays Cataroo! (like Buckaroo but with a cat, not a donkey. And it’s me who gets the catty evils, as though it’s all my fault when cat moves and everything falls off.))

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoGoing to jump in now because time and access to internet are going to be in short supply over the next week.
I am happy with how it’s going. I have no wish for it to be any quicker than it is.

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoTa all! The substance in question was, I believe, CBD oil; two gents were having a very animated discussion about setting up in business to supply it.
@Raine – I am a death-dreamer, too! I’ve been shot, drowned, stabbed – really weird to feel my life ebbing away in the dream.
I think the forced thing is definitely due to the fact that I try to…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoThis thread is for sharing our thoughts on the way the course is running. Are the seminars taking too long, not long enough, just right? Anything you think should be added or adjusted?
Go ahead and share!

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoI shall get my reflections together in the next couple of days. My IRL writing group is reading at a local festival thing tomorrow night, and I seem to have lost my multitasking skills…
With regards to the next seminar, can we share thoughts on how it’s gone so far over the next few days.
If everyone is good with it, we can start the next…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoThis is a bit of a cursory ‘reflections’ because I forgot to make notes of my thoughts as I read the chapters and did the exercises. Plus I’m away without the books so I can have a quick look to jog my memory.
The main thing I got out of Chapter One of the Burrows book was how useful a tool freewriting/freedrafting can be for all sorts of…[Read more]

Andrew Wille's DIY MA course 6 years, 6 months agoRead your dialogue soon after a trip to Mull. Wish I had the memory to write down what I hear i passing. And your ‘I remember blue tiles and the smell of drains and old food.’ sums it up; as you say above, you only need a couple of telling details.

Anyone (esp. @jillybean or @athelstone) able to tell me why the MA course posts are visible on the main wall to non-members even though the group is set to private? When I’m logged out I can see all the posts but can’t click on them to get into the group. Will making the group hidden make any difference?
-
They are visible to anyone who is part of the group on the main wall, I think. How are you accessing them? Activity – all members? Activity – my groups? I will check under admin but I think it’s just because you’re part if the group.
-
Yes, but if I’m logged out shouldn’t I just be like any other punter looking at the site? I tried logging out and clearing my browser cache and I can still see all the posts. I also grabbed Mrs Athelsone’s laptop and I can see the posts from that – and she isn’t a Denizen or anything.
-
@raine you could try making the group hidden. Members will still be able to read and post etc. No idea whether the issue is in WordPress, BBPress, or BuddyPress – the relationships are a bit of a nightmare.
-
Have made the group hidden. Will look into it further as I suspect this will not fix the issue. There is deginitely a problem but only with this specific group so far. Will see what I can do.
-
There’s definitely something odd here. If I log out and go to “Groups”, then the MA Course is visible but marked private and I can’t get into it – which is right. If I go to “Writers’ Forum” the MA Course forum is listed, but the only other forums there are the public ones. I can’t get into the MA Course forum this way as it tells me to log on,…[Read more]

I’ve lost all your replies, but saw most of them I think before they vanished. THank-you for looking into it. It does just seem to be this particular group, which I would take personally, but the other group I set up doesn’t have this problem!!
-
The good news is that it’s a randomly occurring issue which doesn’t just affect this site. The bad news is well the same. Still running a few plugin repairs but I’ll get back to you.
