Found out today that Super Stories has been longlisted (1 of 8) in the Lunchtime Book Club, a new children’s book prize based in Luton! SO chuffed.
(Also in some amazing company – Frank Cotterell-Boyce; Lauren St Child; Marcus Rashford as well as others I’m not so familiar with)

Just sneaking in to say that if anyone is loitering around Birmingham with nothing to do on Saturday 25th Sept, we’re holding a launch for my book at FantasyCon. It’s 11-12am & in the Jury’s Inn hotel. Downside is that you have to buy a day ticket to the Con to attend, which at the moment is Β£41. BUT that means you also get all the other bookish…[Read more]

That’s interesting @knickylaurelle – makes me enjoy the piece even more. I think it’s hard to write well about one’s own experiences – at least I find it so!

As I mentioned all over the rest of DoW except, probably, the right place, I received an email this morning to confirm I have not only won Pennine Ink flash fiction comp 2018, but my other story was placed second. Can you believe it?
Anyway, as asked I have posted the link that contains the winning story below. I can’t believe it is the one that…[Read more]

Hello! If you follow me at @erskine_fiona on twitter I promise to follow back.
And if anyone has a spare minute in the next 180 and feels so inclined, I need all the votes I can muster. Hoping @fionamsharp (reader/buyer for Waterstones) will read the proof of my story The Chemical Detective. Cheers! -

Iβm delighted to be able to announce, for the second time, a short story writing challenge: A Room with a View.
Some of you will know how this challenge will work but I am conscious of the fact that this site is not the Word Cloud. We are lucky to have new members here and they will not have taken part in one before, so forgive me if I go over t…[Read more]

The @denofwriters twitter account is now active (well, is active again after I foolishly gave twitter a reason to deactivate it). Will try to follow as many of you as possible, and retweet writing related tweets as much as I can.

Can’t believe the cloud simply doesn’t exist any more… Calling myself a Dennie doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. So what DO we call ourselves here? Suggestions welcome…
-
Yes, it is very sad, but we can’t say we weren’t warned. How about DENizens?
-
Denizens
-
Although I also like Den-dwellers
-
Denizens π
-
Denizens!
-
I like Denizens. Den Dwellers is rather good too π
And yes that sudden complete failure was a bit of a shock!
-
-
-
-
-
Denofians is my suggestion, but TBH I prefer denizen.
-
Q: What do we call ourselves here?
A: Anything as long as it’s polite -
Denizens. Although, I might be more of a denlet than an izen. π
-
I was thinking denizens too.
-
Not ‘Dense’ then?
-
Denizens – I like. And @sandradavies – just look at the folks already here. Definitely not dense in any way, shape or form! π
-
Dentists? Maybe not …
-
Sorry Squidge – I’m editing :-(, but a quick look at the OED suggests ‘dendrite’ -‘crystalline growth , or ‘denatant’ – the migration of fish. I rather like denominator …

Denizens perfect 😀

Hello. It seems I can only access the Activity wall in here when I’m in work, so I’ll say hi to ye all here. Great to see so many new folks joining (Hi everyone!).
Hopefully I’ll figure out a way to access other parts of the site in work, otherwise I’ll have to talk to you in the middle of the night when I should be writing, but I can probably…[Read more]-

Hi Daeds. Is A Black Matter for the King not out yet? I think I got it delivered to my Kindle a couple of days ago…

Ah, therein lies a tale…as far as the marketing is concerned, we launch on the 7th π

Excellent. I won’t start reading it til then.

MAAAAD! Hi!
-
Hi Mad π
-
(Are we seeming too needy, guys? We don’t want to scare him away.)
-
Hi JB. Not at all, WB. I’ve got a compulsive need to be loved, so this is all good.
-
-
-
Howdy WB. You keeping well??
-
I am currently manifesting as a small, whimsical beach rock. Going well, so far.
-
Whimsical, eh? Ah, that’s so you.
-
And yourself?
-
-
I’m alright thanks. Finding my feet in the new study, getting writing. If I’m manifesting, I think I’m a small tired grapefruit.
-
-
-
-
It also seems that I can only see a limited no. of replies to these updates. Interesting.
-
It seems to depend on how you approach it. If you go from the notification, not all replies appear. Go through your own profile, on ‘Activity’, and it should all show up
-
Couldn’t reply there though (I think that’s work related though). But now I can see everything in the main Activity place. Happy days!
-
We’re still at the wandering around the new building/complex, opening doors and being confused we are not back at the main lobby stage, aren’t we?
-
Indeed. I look forward to finding the door that leads to John Malkovich’s brain.

-
*waves at Mad while conjuring a tiny tired grapefruit room in my brains that he may rest his tiny tired grapefruit self* Don’t know about Malkovich but hoping my brains will do 😀

*Waves back*
*Eats grapefruit*
*Feels guilty*

I totally agree, Daeds, about the persistence thing. My personality is to be like a dog with a bone, and I think that accounts for a lot!
I do believe that the other thing is about continually learning CRAFT. I have been listening to a series of podcasts (https://storygrid.simplecast.fm) over the last 6 months or so and boy, have I learnt a lot.…[Read more]

Hi guys.
For those of you that know me, hello again. For those that don’t, I’ve written a crime thriller called Pieces of Eight, set in Liverpool.
