😀 @jd73 Although 1,666 isn’t much less daunting!
So I am signing up, but making myself no promises. We’ll see. I need to do some serious planning before it kicks off. I think I’m raine_clouds on there.

Tempted. I don’t think I’d hit the target what with, yanno, issues. BUt I do have a new wip that I need to get a move on and actually start, and it would be good to have an excuse not to edit for a while!
Never done it before – do you post your actual text or do you just input your word count each day?
Just done the maths – assuming no writing…[Read more]

Bulgaria holiday day 6 of 12. Pages edited: 0
Hours with running water: 5
Dates fed to beech martens: 500-
That sounds like a typical holiday, all right. Apart from the beech martens thing, but that sounds like a typical Raine holiday

Save some dates for me
-
Re dates, it’d be one for them and one for me.
-
We have lots of running water here; we call it rain.
-
Same here. And air-conditioning; we call it wind.

Sounds like a typical holiday, apart from feeding the martens, which sounds cool. Enjoy racking up some memories – writing can always come later.

So, off on holiday tmrw. Printed off first 50pp of wip. What are the odds on my actually editing any of them?
-
Pretty much zero if you’re anything like me but it’s hard to leave it behind completely. Enjoy your holiday. The down time is good for refreshing ideas!

However many (or few) you manage, hope you have a nice, restful catch-up with your mum x

Depends on the weather … and the opportunities for writing time. Have a great time, anyways.

Raine replied to the topic Help with setting in the forum The Writers' Lifeboat 7 years, 7 months ago
Lincoln would make an awesome setting! It has the historic beauty, and university ‘affluence’ but also the mid/north deprivation. I would think, being as you are looking at family secrets, and being as the rich, chic family with secrets is a trope probably too predictable… I like the reflection you could build from a very historic setting -…[Read more]

Wow, Bella, that sounds awful. I’m not surprised it has rattled you! Hope you are home safe and recovering with lots of tea.
Re: what could have been done … I have a mixed record of dealing with stuff like this, but I do think it’s difficult to gauge what response will help de-escalate the situation. Would being confronted by some burly blokes…[Read more]

Raine replied to the topic My failure in the forum Podium 7 years, 7 months ago
Oh, failure is hard! And so unavoidable. It’s a bit like the ‘slushpile’ term though isn’t it? Perhaps more negative than it needs to be for some of the things we are talking about. Things like not getting short listed in major comps, or not getting a story into a popular journal … are they really failure, or are they a lack of success? Maybe…[Read more]

Raine replied to the topic Getting an Agent. in the forum Blogs 7 years, 7 months ago
Gosh, no @alanr! That seems fairly ott and kind of paranoid. Plus a lot of hassle, right? Spending time and money to copyright something on the small chance that an agent will like it, and even smaller chance that they can be bothered stealing a promising idea rather than just requesting a full ms.
Who was the published author? I’m intrigued…[Read more]

😀 I have a w that doesn’t work on my laptop keyboard, and a slightly sticky shift button on my external keyboard! I blame the complete lack of dusting.

Oh I love what KIt de Waal is doing – she is being so incredibly supportive and generous setting up scholarships and all that. One admirable lady. *swoons* I’d not really kept track of Kerry Hudson, but I’ll check her out.
That’s true re lots of them having MAs, I guess it hadn’t really registered. I’d never think anyone has become an agent…[Read more]

I might ask for some help with the newest wip once I’ve got the next batch of edits done…

Raine replied to the topic Getting an Agent. in the forum Blogs 7 years, 7 months ago
I find Twitter really useful. Keeping track of publishing news was the reason I finally succumbed and joined it! I guess the closest we can do to a centralised MSWL is just to search the hashtag. Other than that, it’s the slow business of googling each agent for recent interviews as well as their agency page.
I’m like Ath – I don’t really notice…[Read more]

Totally forgot to say – LOVE LOVE LOVE the image of the fly and the spider’s web. Him seeing himself as that fly is so sinister and foreshadowy and makes you really want to side with him in whatever dark shenanigans he is up to! 🙂
