I know I’m incredibly talented, Daeds, I’m just pretending to be modest.

Thanks Philippa, Thea. Not much prospect of me progressing but I’m sure Elle is in with a chance.

Er, scuse my ignorance. I know LGBT, but what’s QAIP?

And I thought things couldn’t get more apposite after the year of the cock

Happy New Year! I’m a fan of pigs. Having met wild boars, I have much respect (mild terror) for them, and much love for the stripyness of their babes.
-
I like peccaries, with their tiny dainty feet
-
Okay, a bit of porcine trivia. The meat of the wild boar is prized in some quarters in France, but the animal is a protected species (though that doesn’t stop it being sold under the counter occasionally). to get round this, pig breeders have crossed the wild boar (sanglier) with the farmyard pig (cochon). The resultant hybrid is known as a…[Read more]

๐ @daedalus that made me cackle!

@raine I adore the baby humbugs. Utterly cute. They have escape ladders and platforms attached to trees in the Austrian woods to get away from angry Dad pigs, though.

I wonder where the other replies went?

Itโs a bug that means the โshow all repliesโ button sometimes fails to appear, unfortunately. Has been annoyingly persistent

@bellam those platforms are a genius idea! Could have done with them in Poland – although it was the very protective mummies who made me more nervous tbh, especially when gorgeous humbugs decided to check out my boots!!

The results are in!
Jonathan: A really clever piece of writing, wry observation. Excellent.
Libby: A pleasing little tale, well written and with a message. Good job.
Daedalus: Hugely enjoyable and accomplished description of life with a new puppy and the utter contentment that comes with its unreserved adoration. Liked it a lot.
So, eenie,…[Read more]

I’ve been putting this off. I’ve told myself it’s because so many people have been busy writing and reading for A Room with a View, but more likely it’s fear of the agonies of submission. Thing is, I’ve ‘finished’ revising my ghost story, A Record of Sin. I’ve put it aside for a month or so to let the dust settle (ah, there’s another reason),…[Read more]

Fascinating but daunting. So glad for you that it turned out so well, but anyone reading this who believes they’ll have it made once they’ve got an agent is really going to have their eyes opened. But we need to know what we’re up against, so thanks for posting this. And, again, congratulations.

It is such an emotional rollercoaster, isn’t it? So glad you came out of it on a high – well deserved. Really happy it’s all come together for you. x

Well done, Philippa. I don’t remember reading much, if any, of your writing, but I do remember how perceptive and constructive your comments have been on mine, so I’m hardly surprised.

Well, to be honest I was already pretty leery of small indies after various horror stories I’ve heard. Also the amount of work involved puts me off. If I’m going to try at all it’ll be by the agent route.
Nonfic could work for me, as I am coming to the sad conclusion that I am better at telling an existing story than at making one up. As for your…[Read more]

Had to laugh – had a query via the Contact an Author website. The date of the event was 24th January. I received it this afternoon…
Hope they’ve filled it in as today’s date rather than the date they want…
Nice thing is, it’s because of a recommendation from a friend in Birmingham who’s a librarian.
-
LOvely to be getting recommendations @squidge, shows how well you run your events. ๐ But yes, hope they weren’t expecting you to dash over there immediately!
