I’ve now watched this and it is brilliant. Quality programme, as others have said, and you shine, @daedalus. I was spot on (as @richardb said) when I said I bet you were ‘engaging, knowledgeable and quietly authoritative’, before I had a chance to see it…:-) Really well done! x

Yes, that’s good. Intriguing, suggestive and evocative. Well done, that’s a relief! 🙂

Yay! well done @daedalus!
It won’t let me watch it either but I am sure you are engaging, knowledgeable and quietly authoritative 🙂

Wow! That’s a powerful revelation, @daedalus. (And also a powerful validation of how story works according to this arc, no? And the fact that you didn’t even realise until just now is kind of spine tinglingly spooky, like you can’t trick the subconscious who just KNOWS what works a whole lot better than the conscious).

I know @raine!! It’s just too good to be true eh? AND now you love me forever 🙂 What a very fine day this is turning out to be. Back atcha BTW (and apologies to all others for PDA. She’s Scottish and I’m Aussie so the English emotion rules don’t apply :-))

I have a title. And a reeaallly rough idea of what happens. But there are still many strands waving wildly around and I have no idea where I’m going to stuff them, let alone tie them together neatly…
I’m apparently planning it now, but here I am instead!

And now I’ve seen this and am very, VERY sorely tempted to whip out the credit card…Margaret Atwood is one of my all time lit heroes. And can I just boast that when I first started on Twitter, my first tweet was to her and she REPLIED!!
(Twitter has never lived up to that since, needless to…[Read more]

I’m pretty sure I’ll get the words down. But right now I have only the vaguest plan and I can’t think of even a working title.

What a lot of clever things have been said on this thread! I have read through them all now and it’s all fascinating.
I love Dara Marks, @raine, and your summary is brilliant. I’m getting ready to do NaNoWriMo with book two now and I’m holding these ideas in my head (as opposed to an actual firm plan, which truly is beyond me at first draft…[Read more]

ps @raine I do know what you mean about the female appendage sort of titles, too. thought I have a liking for “The (x person) of (somewhere interesting)” even thought they’ve been a bit done lately

Ooh interesting list @raine. I also like the feel of The Girl and The Missing. And yes, I like the idea of exile too @alanr.
I sent a list of ideas to my agent before I left for India (below) and the one that jumped out for her was When Days Tilt – which I have to admit is one of my favourites, even though it’s a bit more aslant to the…[Read more]

I’m doing it. It nearly killed me last year and I’m still astonished that I actually completed it…but I found it really useful to just get the words on the page and not get hung up on plot details or side-tracked by research. Also the momentum led to some story surprises, in a good way. I’m using it to kick start book two so I’ll buddy up with…[Read more]

I’m doing NaNo this year. In process of planning new novel ready to start. I’m on there as ThrowingCopper if anyone wants to buddy up? 😊
(Think I’m already buddies with you, Ath and Daed.)

AnGal sounds like dystopian specfic YA to me. Of the others the first and last have s more generic feel – they just give me a kids/YA vibe – while the other two hint more at speculative, maybe darker. All of them feel kids/YA I think.
