@janette Love the competition entry! Whimsical and fun. I am now imagining dancing pens π

Mulling monthly comp ideas and realising that I’m better at dismal endings than I am hopeful beginnings…
-
Every ending is a new beginning! *grins like she’s in an inspirational photo*
-
I have an idea but I think even as a new beginning it might be a bit depressing!
-
-
Now I know that’s not true, Raine!
-
You can have a new beginning that will inevitably lead to a dismal ending. Just take out the ending.
i.e. “She fell in love with him the moment she saw him singing along during Mamma Mia 2.”-
I too seem unable to think of anything except gloomy endings
-
Mad, that’s exquisite!
-
@janeshuff, suggestion for next month’s challenge perhaps! π
-
I’ve taken a morning off to write something – the first one unsettled me so much, I was determined to make it uplifting, regardless of crap-factor.

Fall y’all!
I can say it. And wave my accent appropriate hat in the air, and drink a shot of whisky. (I am really doing that last one)

This is wonderful news CJ. Important step on the road – I suspect the fact is has taken a long time is a good thing. Beware the quickly sorted contract.

Started out writing a blog about the sorry tale of my first novel, disappointing publishing experience, imploding publisher and legal battle to recover my rights. Has turned into a three-part series…

Haha Odo the lurcher will always have a special place in my heart but I was talking of bishop Odo – who behaved exactly as a bishop was not supposed to both in going to war bearing arms and in other matters π

Yes, Flying to the Edge. Itβs a slight connection, but itβs there

@jillybean Odo the bishop of Bayeux or Odo the lurcher?

Wow, thanks Richard, thanks all. I’d be interested to hear how a back-to-back read feels, actually. The two books were written together in the first instance, although there was a lot of editing in the mean time, so it ought to work as a flowing narrative. The second one definitely has the advantage of pace – the history definitely felt as though…[Read more]

Thanks, Richard. I’m so glad you enjoyed the books. (Hopefully there will be future collaborations at some point π ) I love Gallet, and I’m oddly partial to Odo too π

Yeah. I recommend not posting Thompson’s regime as writing advice

Anquetil had a comment for that, too – it was something along the lines of ‘you expect us to do what we do on mineral water alone?’
If there was a performance enhancing drug for writing, I’d be sorely tempted by it right now. (Not sure Hunter S Thompson’s idea of such a thing counts, btw)

Well that’s just unreasonable WB π
Jacques Anquetil, first five time winner of the Tour de France was once asked what advice he’d give aspiring bike racers. ‘Ride a bike, ride a bike, ride a bike’ was his answer. The equivalent for aspiring writers could be ‘write a book, write a book, write a book’.

How about: if you want the book to exist, you have to actually write it…

Don’t forget to have a look in the ‘competitions etc’ thread in the main forum, people – lots of opportunities for competitions and publication, and the first monthly Den competition. No entries yet, but still two and a half weeks to post something on the theme of New…[Read more]

Thanks GG, it’s a great idea isn’t it? I don’t have any control over the deadline unfortunately, it’s not a zine I have any involvement in. But people have another two weeks to submit something, and as it’s for 250 word flash, there should be a bit of time to get something in
