I forgot to add my word count (204), and can’t edit the post. This is odd, because I was able to edit a post in a private group.
@sandradavies I can’t. The reply option just sets up a new post. I think the rule is that you can edit (with the edit option) providing your post is the last one. When someone else posts, you lose the ability to edit.

@Julie, Probably the most enjoyable novel I’ve read this century is ‘The Crimson Petal and the White’, which is set in Victorian times.

What counts though as historical fiction? Look at Wiki, and you’ll get a variety of answers. My own novel, set in the 1980s and 90s would count as historical by the 25-year definition, while it wouldn’t by the 50-year definition.
If I could pitch it as historical as well as supernatural, it would really open up my options. -

I think they are to be congratulated. They say will choose the writers who can pitch from the submissions they receive.

Your world
Tell me about your world.
Is it the wreck of a leaking container ship,
pronounced toxic, towed from shore to shore,
or a one-way journey on a flat ocean,
ending when you spill into the abyss?
Is your past a set of random collisions,
now flotsam on an incoming tide?
What about your future?
Has your gift of time degenerated into a…[Read more] -

My small local bookshop, not known for being innovative or adventurous, had put their single copy of ‘Home’ behind, yes behind, a row of Dan Browns.
When I left the shop it was resting on top of them. -

Yes, good advice, and true. Thanks for posting.

I’m going through agents at the moment listing those with that particular request.

Not actually a Haunted House, but still ghostly, and very creepy, Susan Hill’s Dolly is the most enjoyable book I’ve read this year.

Yes, don’t give up @richardb! I’m not sure the talk of fashions is much help being as agents are always guessing on what will be next, and the things in the shops were signed two years before. We were told about 4 years ago that post-apocalytpic was done. But there are still agents asking for it, and still new books appearing in the shops. And I’m…[Read more]

I’m pretty sure I do this anyway, probably 100++ if I’m honest. I see it as essential as I’m in the process of fine-polishing, and we all know a MS has to be as good as possible before submitting to agents. And frankly, if I should miss a day, I would feel guilty.
Today, I’ve had raging toothache, so I worked on my synopsis.
Make every day count. -

Thanks Lorraine,
At FOW18, I had two 1-to-1s. One was encouraging, the other quite negative. My cover letter was described as ‘tidy’, which I guess means it lacks punch. I know it was self-deprecating, because it’s just not me to boast. I can try to step it up a tad. -

Thanks, Daedalus, Jules & Squidge.
I think some of the members here were in Writewords and also the Writer’s Workshop Cloud.
Time moves on, but I’m still working on my first novel. At last, at last, I’m ready to submit to agents. -

Hi,
I came across this site by accident while browsing Twitter. So glad to have it, and much appreciation to the folk(s) who set it up. -

Hi, I was there on the Sunday for the closing keynote – one of the latecomers, I’m afraid. My excuse: first time at York and general unfamiliarity.
I thought you were terrific, and handled any nerves with aplomb. I just wish I’d seen your book first, as the conversations about Jessica (Jezica?) went over my head. Afterwards I did look at the…[Read more] - Load More
