UNTITLED (321 words)
I remember the first time we kissed. An unsatisfactory blending of my pickled onion Monster Munch and his chips and curry sauce. No tongues. We stayed in the shadows at the side of the house so my mum wouldn’t see us from the kitchen window. He wiped the drips from his nose on the sleeve of his Harrington jacket and tried t…[Read more]

I can look at a plugin to display certain blog rss feeds on the sidebar if you like?
Failing that there’s a lot of writing blogs I’ve found useful. I was going to post a list of them in the lifeboat 🙂

I raised the same question earlier – Jules suggested putting it into the blogs like we used to, but do you mean the list of blogs we used to have on the side? It’d be lovely to have that, but I’d feel a bit funny about the Scribbles being quite so visible, because my blog certainly isn’t always about writing…
We’d also have to have some way of…[Read more]

Bonjour
When we lived in La Rochelle, my governess tried to make me say ‘Bonjour,’ to people we met in the street. It was polite she said, I would never be a gentleman if I did not learn to be polite. But I was shy, and after our morning walk she would scold me, and shake me impatiently. Papa was away at the war and Maman was – distant. I knew s…[Read more]

Anyone else having trouble logging in using internet explorer?

This might relate to the maintenance that was done yesterday. Note from ‘admin’ says: Some minor site maintenance has been going on today. It shouldn’t have caused any disruptions, however there is now an automatic redirect to using the site with the SSL certificate. You may find that the Den logs you off and asks you to log back in using h…[Read more]

And if that doesn’t work. You many need to clear your browser history or cookies and log in again. Apologies but it seems to have hit a couole of browsers harder than others 🙄

Thanks, Daeds, Jules (and Mad on twitter). I was using the address on my favourites bar which was the one without the s. So I’ve changed it and now it’s ok. I’m a bit of a numpty when it comes to tech.

Thanks Philippa – that does all make sense! Sounds like I need to now combine the stakes of the challenge with the overall feel…
The inciting incident isn’t actually that she can/can’t make an orb; it’s the fact that a little later, she decides to practise in secret, drains her Power and needs to refill… and at THAT point, discovers something…[Read more]

Had a great night at NIBS this week, our little creative writing group in Nanpantan. As I am Chief Prompt Finder, it got me thinking about what I prefer to use and why – and what kind of prompts work best in group settings.
So I’ve mused a bit on the Scribbles; you can see what prompts we used this week, and I’ve also posted a piece I wrote using…[Read more]

Dancing With Words
Humble, that’s how my kind are deemed: the humble pen.
I don’t know why, since, led by the right hand, we’re capable of causing wars. Stopping them. Uniting distant hearts or breaking them apart. Telling tales that stir a million souls across a thousand years without pictures, smell or sound.
I aspire to that. Which is why,…[Read more] -

So great to read this! CONGRATULATIONS! You definitely still need an agent regardless of interest from publishers – they do all the tricky stuff like negotiating contracts and mine has been so brilliant anytime I’ve asked her about the bits of publishing I’m not so sure about. Plus she’s helped me stand my ground a couple of times on things I…[Read more]

OK. Would you mind if an Admin made a small edit to the warning (have a look at your DMs if you want)?

It would be helpful to add a little more detail in the warning, Tony, just so people can be prepared for what they are about to read.
This is not an issue with the story itself; but I think it might serve as a courtesy to others to let them know what they are about to read. -

Hi Squidge!
How lovely to read about Tilda, and dive into the world you have created. I really like the idea of Tilda being so aware of the Power inside her – literally feeling it – but now grappling to translate this into the creation of the orb. It’s quite symbolic in a way!
Overall, this second version seems tighter than the first, so well…[Read more]
