@athelstone Loved your comp entry. So much told in so few words and I so hoped he eventually found his voice for Mary.

@kazg Yes! I’ve found several aspects of the publishing industry quite daunting and such a relief to go to my agent and say ‘Help!’ and she’s brilliant every time!

What a brilliant weekend that was! A week on and the post-York anti-climax has just about faded though I still feel like I’m catching up on sleep. No change there, then!
A friend asked me this week if doing the keynote on Sunday was more or less scary than the Telly Thing. Easy to answer as I don’t think anything will ever be as scary as the…[Read more]

This might relate to the maintenance that was done yesterday. Note from ‘admin’ says: Some minor site maintenance has been going on today. It shouldnโt have caused any disruptions, however there is now an automatic redirect to using the site with the SSL certificate. You may find that the Den logs you off and asks you to log back in using h…[Read more]

And if that doesn’t work. You many need to clear your browser history or cookies and log in again. Apologies but it seems to have hit a couole of browsers harder than others 🙄

Thanks, Daeds, Jules (and Mad on twitter). I was using the address on my favourites bar which was the one without the s. So I’ve changed it and now it’s ok. I’m a bit of a numpty when it comes to tech.

Dancing With Words
Humble, thatโs how my kind are deemed: the humble pen.
I donโt know why, since, led by the right hand, weโre capable of causing wars. Stopping them. Uniting distant hearts or breaking them apart. Telling tales that stir a million souls across a thousand years without pictures, smell or sound.
I aspire to that. Which is why,…[Read more] -

I’ve blogged about FoW but it’s pix only, I’m afraid, and they’re in an odd order but I don’t have time to faff. What an awesome weekend for Denizens it was. We raised several glasses (each) to absent friends.

So great to read this! CONGRATULATIONS! You definitely still need an agent regardless of interest from publishers – they do all the tricky stuff like negotiating contracts and mine has been so brilliant anytime I’ve asked her about the bits of publishing I’m not so sure about. Plus she’s helped me stand my ground a couple of times on things I…[Read more]

Blushing furiously, Philippa, because I’ve only just found this and we missed each other at York too. Good luck with the book – you’re obviously onto something x

*air punch* Yes, publishing moves at a glacial pace but this is a fabulous stride forwards – at last. I saw your lovely agent at York, though we didn’t have a chance to chat. I do know how much she adores you though. (Don’t we all!) xx

Happy dancing along with the rest, Kaz! Congratulations – this is so exciting. Sorry I’ve not been in among the beta readers but I’d love to catch up with this some time.

Kaz! KAAAAAZZZZ! This is utterly brilliant news. I’m so delighted and excited for you. You’re absolutely right to have an agent too, even though you’ve already got what most people want from an agent. As soon as there’s somewhere online that I can link to, I’ll be adding you to the Self-Edit Hall of Fame. Lots of you are already listed there.…[Read more]

I’m going to go with the advice given and submit it to another comp, this time with its original title ‘The Grandmothers’. If it sounds familiar, it is because it was an old comp entry over on Cloud but which I polished up a little, this one set in a Celtic village (yes, rather like my other wip *blushes*). As I don’t want to compromise by…[Read more]
