@Athelstone, @JaneShuff, @GippsGirl re posting Step so grave, if I’ve interpreted the Royal Mail site right (and often I don’t) it’ll cost Β£7.65 to send to France, Β£3 for the UK, plus, say 75p for P&P so, Jane, if you have a UK address that’ll still be cheaper than Blurb. (My profit per book is 78p, not Β£1.30 – maths never my strong point!- so I…[Read more]

Well, thank-you everyone for entering. I’m so glad I set this particular challenge as it’s been so much fun getting little insights into all your works in progress and I can genuinely say I’d have carried on reading every one of them. They all pulled me right in and left me wanting more, so seriously well dones on lots of good stuff.
Because…[Read more]

Some of the comments in our SE group have gone into hiding. Can anyone remember what the fix is for this? @athelstone? @jillybean?
-
There should be a little double speech box icon in the bottom right corner of the main post. If you hover over that it should give you the option to ‘view conversation’ and if you click on it should open up the entire chat. If someone has commented on a comment rather than on the main post, you may need to do the same on the comment. Occasionally…[Read more]

Fingers crossed the will reappear – same lack on phone & laptop, of both links and double speech boxes.
-
The other thing to consider is that if you repky to a comment, and the author of the comment deletes it, all the replies to that comment will be deleted to.
-
In this case, it’s a writing exercise, each of us posting for others to comment on. One seen and disappeared, the other never seen at all.
-
I’m afraid I have no immediately explanation but I’ll attempt to access it from the back end and see what can be done.

Lovely to see you Gerry. I’ve not joined Jericho, like @athelstone says, I’m leery of investing time in a platform that may or may not remain open to me. This Den has its own clunky foibles, but I think I’ll stick to mooching around in here as and when I am efficient enough to get online with time to spare!

It’s a dangerous road, indeed – I have never been seriously tempted down The Cleaning Way, except perhaps like @athelstone as a procrastinatory device. Much better to maintain low standards. It’s hard work, but worth it (all that TIME!). Also, kids. Train them up. They get quite useful as they get older.

@athelstone – its in the Conversations section of My Jericho. The replays are at the bottom of the page and they have recently added the latest ones.

Not for me, this year @Athelstone. I’ve actually applied for a bursary for Mslexicon, which is Mslexia’s new writing conference. It’s just as expensive as YOrk but there seems to be a bit more on offer, and the bursaries are open for people like me (chronic illness). We’ll see, would be fun to try a new event, but not at full price.
-
@raine Mslexicon looks absolutely brilliant and I wish you luck with the bursary!
In other news, I spotted an agent I’d really like to snag and I have now (impulsively) booked a place at York. Later in September my nephew is getting married in Edinburgh and I have to book flights for family. I WILL BE BROKE BIG TIME.
-
Oooh, but if you have time whilst in edinburgh, we might be able to have a wee writer meet-up!! I’m sure @seagreen will come in (if she is in the UK, obv).
-
Probably a really packed schedule but it would be sad not to fit in a tea/coffee and a doughnut perhaps!
-
Include me too in any Edinburgh meet, please! Bursary sounds fantastic, Raine, best of luck with that, and, Ath, that you’ve a novel ready to go is brilliant. Seems ages since I had contact with writers in person π
-
No York for me, but Edinburgh is definitely do-able.
-
-
Do let me know if you do plan that. I am a flight away

@athelstone – can’t find the donations thingy in forum. Thought it might be under admin, but no joy and it doesn’t seem to be listed anywhere else in there?
-
Hi Squidge, from login select Groups, then scroll down and select Donations, then select Forum π There are two topics. the first is a summary of where we are and how to donate. The second is for chat.
-
I’ve checked there too Squidge, and it’s showing as not having a forum. No topics Ath.
-
That’s odd. There aren’t any settings I can see to make the forum more visible, or even to hide it or anything really. It’s a public group, can you see the forum if you join it?
-
Yes, you have to join.
-
Ah, well that’s my inexperience with the site then. I should have added ‘join’ as a step.

@janette, I had to do some serious door-wrestling too. Whilst thinking ‘how hard can you yank on a door handle before you snap it off?’
And @athelstone, glad to hear the foxes are feeling spring-like, despite all evidence to the contrary! -

Hah hah @raine, who said anything about secondary characters?! These are my main characters I’m talking about! But hopefully as @athelstone says, it’s about there not being obvious “bugs” in the writing. Yeah the issue I stumbled into was that, psychologically, a particular character arc made sense if certain events happened when her child was…[Read more]

@athelstone Hurrah. It’s time we writers broke free from the shackles of continuity.

@janeshuff this looks like another case where bbpress is hiding replies (for space and tidiness) but not providing a ‘show all replies’ button. So although I can see there were 8 replies, I can’t actually view them.

@richardb and @squidge – I don’t think there’s anything wrong in not wanting to use models like these! I have a penchance for graphs, which is probably ~60% of why I love it! No – I like the tie-in between internal and external, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

That 5 of you go towards YA / Children’s and the other 2 suggest SF / Fantasy tells me that the original name is still the one to use, although I will still make a minor tweak to it.
So, yes, it’s a literary-leaning novel about possession, with the MFC split.
