Iβm with @philippaeast on this one. Often if I find myself fiddling back and forward with one thing, itβs because the issue with that bit is actually because of a different bit being wrong. If that makes sense.
But also, yes to @jd73, it can just be about mood & what aspects of the book are at the forefront of my mind during that edit on tha…[Read more]

Okay folks, I think Feb and March have kind of got the better of most of us. Sorry @jd73 for the floundering of this comp. Your prompts are great & if you are happy to still judge, how about we make this the April comp, and get everyone going again?

Thank you @johnalty and well deserved Jonathan @jd73. As Daeds said, a tour de force. I really enjoyed both your piece and his.

Guys, I can’t apologise enough for being NINE days late coming back to this. THe holidays were … not conducive to remembering things, so I am sorry for keeping you in suspense (and making January a very brief comp!)
So… thankyou for managing to fit in writing your entries during the xmas busyness.
@Seagreen – I loved the tiny details that…[Read more]

π @jd73 Although 1,666 isn’t much less daunting!
So I am signing up, but making myself no promises. We’ll see. I need to do some serious planning before it kicks off. I think I’m raine_clouds on there.

You lot are fantastic! Thank you all so much for brainstorming for me π
@seagreen and @janeshuff – I think you’re really onto something there with The Time Stealer/Snatcher’s… and using that to bundle the series together. Going to ponder that.
@jd73 that made me snort – Iron Maiden’s back catalogue π But I love them. And I’m leaning…[Read more]

@jd73 Bluemoose are supposed to be really good aren’t they? One of the big hitter indies. So good luck with them!
@bellam if you are southeast, keep an eye out cos there are loads more of these kinds of things in and around London. Are you on Twitter? They are forever coming up on my TL, and always down south somewhere (sigh). -

What an astounding event. I can’t imagine any NY or Parisian agents heading two hours north to find new talent.
I wonder what the ambiance will be. Writers waiting in little rooms, or a more open event where they can mingle with one another?
@jd73, I asked that very question during York’s “meet the agents” panel. And they were unanimous in…[Read more]

@jd73 that’s good news! I guess just make sure the first 3 chapters are different to the old version!
@juliec The agency are a big-ish well established one, with some big name authors and all that jazz. And yeah, any agency actively looking at diversity and accessibility is a good agency, to my mind. π

Prob worth asking, @jd73. It says not eligible to anyone who’s attended previous pitching sessions, but nothing about previous subs. Maybe pitch to a different agent?

Thank-you so much for your comments, everyone. They are so helpful. Oh wait, I should tag, right, else you might not see it? @jd73, @daedalus and @sandradavies, you are ace. Thank-you. I love the word stochastic too!
@philippaeast – no this isn’t the one with pub/agents, it’s one of the next two and I’m trying to decide which one to throw out…[Read more]

@jd73 Enjoyed your comp entry. It reminded me of your namesake’s Struldbruggs (it isn’t you is it, Mr. Swift?) but damned by curiosity rather than fate. And an ending even bleaker than Swift imagined.
