Sorry Richard, I meant to pass this on to @athelstone and @jillybean when you mentioned it the other day. I’m pretty sure it’s a glitch, but could the mods elaborate?

  • KazG replied to the topic A gasp escaped me! in the forum Blogs 5 years, 8 months ago

Yes, I agree with @raine and @jillybean. Boyne is clearly lazy and arrogant with it. I recall some online stoush he had with the Auschwitz Memorial Museum (!!) when they criticised the historical accuracy of his book, and his snooty and dismissive response. I have despised him since I must say. I tend to research more than I need but I have a…[Read more]

Totally agree re Boyne, @jillybean. He’s lazy and complacent, and doesn’t care who he hurts as a result.

Having recently discovered the horrors of researching hist fic, I must admit to struggling with knowing where the line is between really getting stuck on details that don’t matter, and making sure the whole worldbuilding feels authentic.…[Read more]

Anyone (esp. @jillybean or @athelstone) able to tell me why the MA course posts are visible on the main wall to non-members even though the group is set to private? When I’m logged out I can see all the posts but can’t click on them to get into the group. Will making the group hidden make any difference?

    • They are visible to anyone who is part of the group on the main wall, I think. How are you accessing them? Activity – all members? Activity – my groups? I will check under admin but I think it’s just because you’re part if the group.

      • Yes, but if I’m logged out shouldn’t I just be like any other punter looking at the site? I tried logging out and clearing my browser cache and I can still see all the posts. I also grabbed Mrs Athelsone’s laptop and I can see the posts from that – and she isn’t a Denizen or anything.

        • @raine you could try making the group hidden. Members will still be able to read and post etc. No idea whether the issue is in WordPress, BBPress, or BuddyPress – the relationships are a bit of a nightmare.

          • Have made the group hidden. Will look into it further as I suspect this will not fix the issue. There is deginitely a problem but only with this specific group so far. Will see what I can do.

          • There’s definitely something odd here. If I log out and go to “Groups”, then the MA Course is visible but marked private and I can’t get into it – which is right. If I go to “Writers’ Forum” the MA Course forum is listed, but the only other forums there are the public ones. I can’t get into the MA Course forum this way as it tells me to log on,…[Read more]

    • I’ve lost all your replies, but saw most of them I think before they vanished. THank-you for looking into it. It does just seem to be this particular group, which I would take personally, but the other group I set up doesn’t have this problem!!

      • The good news is that it’s a randomly occurring issue which doesn’t just affect this site. The bad news is well the same. Still running a few plugin repairs but I’ll get back to you.

@jillybean – read your books pretty much in two days. Really enjoyed them. Love Gregory – big, brash, but loyal to a fault.

Couldn’t find them on Goodreads to leave a review though… Have you posted them there yet?

    • Thanks, Squidge. I’m so glad you enjoyed them šŸ™‚
They are both on Goodreads but are easier to find if you search for them as Revolt the king’s knight etc
(tried to leave you a link but dialogue box didn’t like it.)

Really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review šŸ˜€

Some of the comments in our SE group have gone into hiding. Can anyone remember what the fix is for this? @athelstone? @jillybean?

    • There should be a little double speech box icon in the bottom right corner of the main post. If you hover over that it should give you the option to ‘view conversation’ and if you click on it should open up the entire chat. If someone has commented on a comment rather than on the main post, you may need to do the same on the comment. Occasionally…[Read more]

      • Fingers crossed the will reappear – same lack on phone & laptop, of both links and double speech boxes.

        • The other thing to consider is that if you repky to a comment, and the author of the comment deletes it, all the replies to that comment will be deleted to.

          • In this case, it’s a writing exercise, each of us posting for others to comment on. One seen and disappeared, the other never seen at all.

            • I’m afraid I have no immediately explanation but I’ll attempt to access it from the back end and see what can be done.

  • Hi all. First of all apologies for the absence, but things have been rather busy with writing and the puppy. I want to take time to mention this, though, as it’s a publication featuring no fewer than four Denizens – @woolleybeans, @jillybean, @madiguana and your servant.

Found you @janeshuff! You ARE called Janeshuff, but for some reason you don’t come up in the dropdown menu – but I think I still managed to send you a message and an invitation. I’ve think I’ve also invited @jillybean and @daedalus to join Camp – did that come through, you two?

  • KazG posted a new activity comment 7 years ago

Nope to the email address. Have you signed up for the Camp? I think you have to sign up specifically for it first – it won’t find you from the old Nano site (which I think is why I can’t find @daedalus and @jillybean at the moment). It’s a private cabin so you won’t see it @janeshuff – if you make it public they fill it for you and I don’t…[Read more]

Ok I have just seen this on the Camp NaNo website:
