That’s amazing @Daedalus!! SO exciting! Although not for him, obv. For him that’s the ultimate defeat *sobs offscreen*. And I love it when you realise something, and there’s that ‘well, yes, *obviously*’ feeling to it. Like that facet of your story was there all along, you just hadn’t spotted it. So good.

Yay! well done @daedalus!
It won’t let me watch it either but I am sure you are engaging, knowledgeable and quietly authoritative 🙂

Wow! That’s a powerful revelation, @daedalus. (And also a powerful validation of how story works according to this arc, no? And the fact that you didn’t even realise until just now is kind of spine tinglingly spooky, like you can’t trick the subconscious who just KNOWS what works a whole lot better than the conscious).

Thanks @philippaeast @Daedalus @kazg @anna @hilary
I’m inclined to go for the finish and edit as by the time the course starts in January, I (should?) have made a start on another novel. I think not the pitching course, as I feel atm I’ve had my fill of cover letters and synopses.
Has anyone done these courses? -

Sorry @daedalus – for some reason your latest didn’t appear till after I’d posted the above. Really interesting breakdown there, I’d seen the film, and it came across to me (many moons ago, I admit) as extremely captivating and clever but essentially typical alpha-male adventure type thing. But no! PErhaps I should watch it again to pick up on all…[Read more]

I think I do a bit of both tbh. I do plot out the character arcs at the start, but things change as I write (as they do, the wee buggers), so by the end I need to do it all again for my major edit. That’s when Julie Cohen’s post-it notes come into play! I’m basically a walking advert for Julie and Craig.
@daedalus re the tragic/heroic thing – it…[Read more]

You lot are fantastic! Thank you all so much for brainstorming for me 🙂
@seagreen and @janeshuff – I think you’re really onto something there with The Time Stealer/Snatcher’s… and using that to bundle the series together. Going to ponder that.
@jd73 that made me snort – Iron Maiden’s back catalogue 🙂 But I love them. And I’m leaning…[Read more]

@Daedalus – that’s exactly what I am getting at. It’s often about a mismatch. And there can often be luck involved, too, though also we can all create some of our own luck. A lot of writing that does not get taken is not picked up because it’s not yet at a professional standard in terms of craft and technique, or because it’s simply unlikely to…[Read more]

@daedalus The law in the USA is basically the same, copyright rests with the creator as soon as the creation is in a tangible form. The difference is litigation, America’s national sport. To defend, or attack, is far less complex and expensive if you’ve registered the copyright. But, an important point, just putting the C-mark on your work,…[Read more]

Hi @alanr. My hair IS kind of chestnut, but I wouldn’t call it vivid! So don’t think that was me…. Hope we will cross paths another time.
Yes @daedalus – I suspect there is a US / UK split. The writer I knew who kept putting “c”s on things was from the States.
I think I recall @Debi weighing in on the discussion previously to say no “c”…[Read more]

They’re a modest lot so perhaps just a eulogy to me, how I came up with the idea and built the site from scratch – that sort of thing 🙂
But more seriously, I expect we’ll find a place for the list if anybody wants to find it.

Thanks for that, Athers. In that case, well done to all concerned a wonderful job has been undertaken and it is much appreciated to be able to fan the spirit of ‘The Wordcloud’ into new (and hopefully) everlasting realms.
