I like @Squidge‘s suggestion.
How about having both a competition as you’ve outlined it @Daedalus
and also a non-competitive prompt/challenge as a separate thing, also run every two months. It may be just me but I can see things becoming confusing if the one process variously includes a competition and a non-competition!If there’s no judging…[Read more]

LOvely to be getting recommendations @squidge, shows how well you run your events. π But yes, hope they weren’t expecting you to dash over there immediately!

Thanks you both for your feedback.
@squidge β thanks for mentioning those sentences tripped you. I am sometimes unsure when a sentence makes me trip if it’s because it is or just because I am not used to it as English is not my first language.
@jonathan β thanks for spotting that typo, indeed it should be “lager” and not “larger”.

@richardb and @squidge – I don’t think there’s anything wrong in not wanting to use models like these! I have a penchance for graphs, which is probably ~60% of why I love it! No – I like the tie-in between internal and external, but it’s definitely not for everyone.
@athelstone, yeah you’re totally right, I agree it’s foolish to think that any…[Read more]

@janeshuff, that sort of forum would be great wouldn’t it? Perhaps worth setting one up sometime.
@squidge & @richardb, it’s a gorgeous place, isn’t it? I had a couple of trips there to stay at a residential welsh language school in the most stunning, stark, kind of depressing setting. I love all those abandoned mines/quarrys/houses. Softer than…[Read more] -

@squidge Theyβre a lot more relaxed these days about what qualifies – itβs pretty much 50k words of anything. I just find the discipline it gives useful over the course of a month

Thanks for your input @athelstone @seagreen @Janeshuff @kazg @Squidge @elle @Bellam
That 5 of you go towards YA / Children’s and the other 2 suggest SF / Fantasy tells me that the original name is still the one to use, although I will still make a minor tweak to it.
So, yes, it’s a literary-leaning novel about possession, with the MFC split.

You lot are fantastic! Thank you all so much for brainstorming for me π
@seagreen and @janeshuff – I think you’re really onto something there with The Time Stealer/Snatcher’s… and using that to bundle the series together. Going to ponder that.
@jd73 that made me snort – Iron Maiden’s back catalogue π But I love them. And I’m leaning…[Read more]

@Stellaolivetti Bath, Bridport, Yeovil, Blue Pencil.
There are two more with end dates coming soon: Grindstone and Caledonian.Yes, it’s disheartening when you see newly published books by celebs (assume that’s what you mean). Naomi ALderman is great @squidge! Not always a comfortable read, but (haha) very powerful. I loved The Power, and I’ve also just read her newest – The LIars Gospel, which you might enjoy. I think. Some might not like the angle it takes, but I thought it was beautiful in its own way.
