Interzone magazine for SF and fantasy, open for submissions of up to 10,000 words. The publisher, TTA Press also do Black Static magazine (horror) and Crimewave magazine, your guess is as good as mine on subject matter :).

Though they’re not currently accepting submissions, Shoreline of Infinity (mainly SF) magazine and Luna Press (SF, fantsy and dark fantasy) are worth keeping in mind.

Albedo 1 might be worth a look for fantasy, SF and horror. They have four submission windows per year (next on is July) and pay 6 euro per 1000 words.

I’m delighted, thrilled, stunned and generally, totally chuffed that my entry for our own Room with a View writing comp has been given a highly commended in the Michael Terrence short story comp. There is also a teasing mention of publication for a selection of the highly commended stories on the MTP webpage but no confirmation, as yet.

As if that wasn’t enough, a comic strip I scripted is being published in Futurequake, a small press comic of impecable credentials. 1 March is the date for my comic debut.

Jules, you’re absolutely right. So I’ve got a radioactive monster looking to find that special someone, the monster’s giant mutated rat sidekick to help along the way and a title.

    Time for a road trip!

Thanks for posting this, Jules. I really fancy having a swing at it and I’ve got the makings of an idea but no confidence I can knock out 20k+ words of quality copy in five months!

    Ah, decisions, decisions.

Must be worth a swing at for the price of a couple of pints. I’m in!

(And maybe a packet of crips as well. If you’re drinking outside London. Or Edinburgh.)

I got long listed in the Crowvus Publishing Christmas ghost story comp. No publication but at least I know I’ve now got a half decent tale in the bag. And since mine’s wasn’t especially Christmassy, I’ve got an in for any spooky comps that crop up!

If this link works – I will be amazed at myself.

Think she might be interested in an urban fantasy set in modern day Edinburgh with orcs, goblins, kidnappings, house breaking, world walking, friendship, betrayal and moderate to heavy drinking. And, of course, a patriarchy being burned to the ground?
